So, not quite Crystal Gayle-length, but getting there. I was just reading a book on the 1948 elections, and we were introduced to a woman who hadn't cut her hair since Hoover's '32 defeat because she had promised her father not to do so until there was another Republican in the White House, who was looking forward to getting a stylish do in anticipation of the inevitable Dewey victory.
You realize walking down this road, you'll find yourself standing in a revival tent, perhaps part of a formalist reenactment of the Third Great Awakening, surrounded by a shouting, dancing crowd, and staring up at some sweaty dude ironically impersonating Billy Sunday in full roar, don't you? ^_^
