Mayer Monday - 25 Day JM blog challenge - Day 4

Dec 13, 2010 13:24

Today is one of thsoe days where I am totally uninspired. I feel like I have nothing of interest to say about anything. I want to write, I want to get a little ahead in AWR but it's just not working. I'm hitting a road block. I push myself when I get like this because I feel like I have to but, as I sit here at work eating lunch, I realize I need to give myself a break, I need to step back and just not look at it for a day or two or it's just going to go downhill quick. I hope it comes back soon though, I'm in a such a mood to write, it's just, everything I put down right now I feel totally sucks and I wind up deleting it.

Monday, Monday, Monday. JM Blog Challenge Day. Let's see what today's question is.

04. Favorite John Mayer song

Oye, quite possibly one of the hardest questions you could ask me. Honestly, I know it's a cop out to say all of them, but besides Do You Know Me (which I skip every single time - it's just too boring for me, I feel like if I listen to it I'm gonna fall asleep) I can listen to each album all the way through without skipping.

Of course, my favorites tend to change week to week, with some songs played more often than others. I hop around quite alot in that way. One week I'll play Edge of Desire until I can't take it anymore. The next week all I'll want to listen to is Split Screen Sadness. A couple of weeks ago I looped Wheel and 83 over and over (83 - what is it about the 'brother Ben' lyric that gets me every time?) So in reality, it really depends what mood you catch me in to find out what my favorite song is.

I guess though, if I had to really think of one song that I'd have to consider  a 'favorite', one song that I absolutely never get enough of...I'd have to pick Slow Dancing in a Burning Room. I dunno why exactly, something about how soulful it is, and the imagery you get from the lyrics. I just, I can listen to it over and over and every version I hear I love.

One of my favorite versions is definitely the "Village Sessions" version. Stripped down, raw and absolutely perfect. I love how it's not perfect, you hear every chord, every pick of the strings and I feel like in this version you can really focus on his voice, there is this bit of sweet saddness in it, the emotions right there at the surface.

If you get the chance, turn down the lights and pop this one on the stereo and tell me you don't feel the tug at your heart. I dare you.
