Unleashing the Inner Teenybopper
So yesterday I got some news on my twitter feed that caused me to squeal like a 13 yr old and made the inner teenybopper that's been hibernating inside of me since high school wake up. Wanna know that that news was? Well...see below.
YES!! New Kid on the Block and Backstreet Boys are going on TOUR TOGETHER!!!! I can't begin to tell you how excited this makes me!!!
New Kids were the first group I was really ever passionate about. I had to be no older than 7 or 8 when they really hit it big and I was obsessed. I remember every piece of merch I owned from the huge wall clock that looked like a watch, to the bedsheets, to the puzzles I'd put together and my dad would hang on my wall. I remember my parents ordering their Pay-Per-View special and I'd dance and sing along in front of the TV with my New Kids mircophone. Looking back, they were probably what started my music obsession.
And then there is Backstreet. Oh Backstreet. My High School obsession. They brought me some of the greatest memories, made my some of my closest friends, and lead to me doing some pretty crazy things. They were the reason I wanted to work in the music industry and why I studied it in college. I lost count a long time ago of just how many times I've seen them live but if I was to tell you the things I've done to see them (waiting in line at all hours, taking a ferry for ONE DAY to see Nick Carter before getting back up to school, sleeping on sidewalks etc.) you'd think I was crazy. Although I don't follow their every move anymore, they will always have a special place in my heart and I look back on those memories fondly for the rest of my life.
The thought of being able to see both of them in concert at the same time though? Makes me completely utterly giddy. For one night (or as many nights as I wind up getting tickets for) I'll be that teenager again, dancing and singing along at the top of my lungs to two of the musical groups that defined my love for music and changed my life forever. I CAN'T WAIT!! :)
