So I will be getting a horse trailer sometime in the next year from a friend of mine. I think it's silly to own a trailer and not have a vehicle that you can pull it with. So within the next year to two years i need to get a pick up. I'm looking at the Dodge Ram 2500, the Ford F250 Super Duty, and the comparable GM truck. Obviously the one I'm least interested in is the GM. I haven't done any research on it, but the people who own one of my sister's horses has one and it's what we use to pull their trailer. I'm told by my sis and my roomie, who have both pulled with it, that it pulls great. I've done research on the Dodge and the Ford. The Ford looks really great on paper, but the reviews are every which way and I can't decide if it's good or not. I'm wary because Ford has gotten a bad reputation after about the 1970's. But at the same time all my parents have ever owned are Fords. My grandparents on my mom's side, one of her brothers and her sister, the same ... I've only looked a little at the Dodge because I know that most of the horse people i know pull with a Dodge. I haven't test driven yet because i don't feel like i'm that close to buying. That doesn't mean i don't want to test drive. I'm quite anxious to test drive actually. I also can't decide if diesel is worth it. Better pulling power, yes, supposedly better for the environment, but huge price difference.
If any of you have any insight on these problems or know someone who'd be able to give me advice I'd like to know.
