I discovered very quickly that driving on the highway is driving in a straight line and not hitting anything (except you're going very fast and everyone wants to hit you). Thankfully, for the three or four hours each day, I had a crap load of music.
I made it up to my meeting only to find that my Art Director was out sick and that everyone had forgotten to call me (boo). I met with my editor and her assistant and we hashed out what changes we wanted to make. All of them were in line with what I had been planning to do anyway. Change the writing to third person, move some of the events around for dramatic tension and add more back matter. They really want me to change my cover but we'll see if I can convince them with a proper layout.
It was extremely strange because they wanted to know what I wanted to do after this... and when I told them they kind of volunteered to take that book on. So now we're probably going to be doing TWO books. They kept gushing that this is the kind of book that receives a lot of awards and that I would be doing a lot of lectures for. I... hadn't really planned that far. Let's just make some cool ART. It was great to finally choose what kind of book ends I'll have and how many pages I get to play with. Now I get to move around everything. Basically, everyone left happy and my changes are due in a month.
Left and went down to Providence and visited Lauren and Jeremy. We played with their cats and drove around town in the dark. It's been so easy to forget how comfortable and instantly happy I am around Providence folks. There isn't any work involved. I think it's just trust built overtime. I slept at Lauren's and we ate at an old fashioned diner the next day. Visited Admissions for two hours, got art supplies, visited my professors and came home. Oh god, that felt so fucking good. It just feels good to be there.
Sadly, no Emma Watson sightings. I've failed you all.
I have to drive up to SUNY Purchase on Sunday to review portfolios for RISD. Good god man, small desperate children AHOY.
