Hmmmm where should i start.....???? from now backwards??? or from whenever i wrote a group email last, forwards??? i cant remember when i wrote the last group email so i´m just going to go from now backwards.
RIGHT NOW i am in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain about to get a bus to the airport to fly to London. I just came from a massive detox in San Sebastian where i lived on fruit and vegetables to regenerate my liver....
Pamplona: ok so i know i will get in trouble from the vegetarian police but i went to San Fermin festival. I ran with the bulls (ok so replace "running" with "pressing my back so hard against a garage door so that i would be invisible...") but i got down there on the street and participated!!! I also went to a bullfight but i had to leave pretty early because of the tears... i now know everything about it and its no better than i imagined it to be. Dont worry i didnt pay for it i had an awesome boss who got tickets for everyone. I got to pamplona by getting a job where i got free accomodation for changing a few sheets a day. The crew i was working with were heaps of fun and it turned into an 11 day party. I ended up spending maybe 5€ a day and got free alcohol and meals around the clock - this included wild parties and pissups, and free tshirts (at least one got purple every day!). We also got balcony views for the bull runs. The workers all shared a couple of flats that turned into bombsites after a day. The txupenazo was one of the craziest scenes ever! The streets were covered in sangria-and-tinto-stained white and red uniforms, broken glass (knee-deep = fucked ankles) and other unmentionables - people were jumping from this statue way too high into the crowd - many survived. Then met back up with the crew and started work - pissed as a newt and as filthy as one too... if newts are sangria swilling drunkards. Blew up a few airbeds. And because i cant be arsed writing about the whole festival let me say this: it was the best experience of my trip- i met so many fun and inspirational people - it was so hard to say goodbye and then to give my liver a break (i ended up in san sebastian with one of the kiwi girls i met) We found a banana suit in one of our flats leftover from a stag party and one of the dudes took it upon himself to become the bananicon for the festival (he met so many girls!) and he refused to take it off even for a bullfight. Another guy i was working with was the biggest gangsta hood from chicago... i think his catch phrase was "... i STOMPED that muthafucker!..." also, Chopper impersonations from Will leaving me in stitches, even with a pastey pommie accent, i think that made it funnier. I really am going to miss those guys. The closing ceremony was quite emotional, a candlelit procession and i think i was singing promising i would return next year.... and i couldnt break a promise to San Fermin. We made a candle shrine and promised we´d stay in touch. End.
Before that was Bordeaux in which more personal jokes accrued to the Monica Laura and Chris saga. ..." I´m pedigreee..." and we repeatedly and intentionally blew the power to our hotel which was good for a giggle til Monica had a go and stuffed it completely. What else can i say about bordeaux.... we got pissed. Wine. and you have to "liberate his flavours" (winery tour lady talking about tasting wine).
Before that was San Sebastian (again) which has turned into my favourite chillout spot, with almost nothing to do but hang out on the beach, read about Basque history and have a few drinks at the many bars at night.
Barcelona: we adopted this californian dude (pewp tom) who entrusted us with his pack at Montpellier train station and danced on the beach to Manu Chao and spainsh reggae. I lost my sleeves from my pretty dress and ended up swimming in the dirty, crowded barcelona beach in my underpants. Siesta opening hours constantly ruin your plans...
Venice was dirty, but very picturesque! A pigeon was ON ME! Ewwww i hate those flying rats.
Rome was heaps historical and besides seeing the Old Shit, we had a pretty good time - i almost has to throw out my leatherman because i wasnt allowed into the Vatican City with it and they wouldnt mind it so i wrapped it in rubbish and shoved it in a crack in a stone pillar. It was there when i returned! Actually there are a lot of rules in italy - IT IS NOT ALLOWED TO i.e. "sit on this step." Actually it is not allowed to sit anywhere but in designated sitting areas. Which are overpriced cafes. I ran into a girl i used to play softball with at the pantheon! Wierd...
Croatia was awesome and i will have to go back. The water is like gemmy blue jelly and full of nature (ewww nature get it off get it off!!!) and there was this island full of peacocks which were really scary and there are cats everywhere and they all have red eyes and fleas. There was this saaaandy beach which was half nudist and so blue water. we went on an island cruise and it was just me and monica on this dudes little boat... which was totally unsafe especially during the storm on the way home... we feared for our lives... i have videos....
Did i email from Vienna? Oh well i cant raelly remember off the top of my head but there were lots of second hand clothes stores and large beers. Monica and i stumbled home singing macy gray at the top of our lungs and getting told "... du bist scheizer..." and eating spaghetti with no hands....
Before that i was in the Arctic Circle. Narvik, Norway. This place is just so tranquil... i saw the 11:30 sun (it was a bit too early for the midnight sun but thats ok) it stayed light all night and the silence was deafening... i could seriously hear my watch tick around the valley by the fjords... oh i also went to western norway to see those fjords too.
i think thats where this email ends. I am trying to get home early because i need to start digging myself out of debt. But as the last two weeks have proven, i´m not that desperate to get home. I could always find a job in London.
I miss you all so much though, and i miss silly little things when they manage to find their way into my thoughts. That´s all for now. Take care, and i promise to!
xx
