Hey thanks so much! You should definetly see the movie if you've read the book. I think you'll love it!
Okay, about the vid. The first one you're talking about, the one on the car window, isn't a split screen it's an overlay. I don't know what program you use, but in mine it's actually called "picture in picture" and it lets me change the size of the overlay to whatever I want. So I made it small and somewhat transparent and then I set the edges to blur (sometimes this is also called feather) so that you couldn't see them.
The second effect is actually in the clip that way, but I do have an idea how they did it. You could do it how I explained the first one, by using an overlay and then cropping the edge (usually using something like "crop" or "pan")until it's close to the girls face on the left. They probably have the same color background and you wouldn't have to do much with the edge. An even better way that I know for sure you can do it in after effects, and you can probably do it in premiere as well, is to mask the girl's face on the left using the pen tool so that it's the only part of that layer showing through. I hope I helped some without confusing you more. I'm not very good at explaining things!

I also have the funcion 'picture in picture' and the ability to blur the edges of the footage. I'll try and combine the two and see if i'll be able to achieve the effect I want. Thanks for replying!!
