With No Lifesaver You Try Your Best To Float

When she died, she left a pendant;
Her only keepsake.
She left a note with instructions to "keep it safe".

She met death with a smile.

Her home was much brighter in the old days.
The great windows which dominated the structure of her home
Now stood boarded, the sunlight denied.

When the sun went down, she read by lamp light
The oil burned softly, illuminating page after page
Until stars were driven away by clouds
And the Moon submitted to the Sun

There was no city then.
She ran free among the tall grass, rolling along the hills
She knew every tree, and visited them often
Finding safety among the highest branches.

Now the skyscrapers dominate the countryside
And their heights do not offer the same safety
She blamed foriegners
She blamed herself

With reckless abandon
She spent the remaining days
Umoving

Her remaining passion she kept hidden
Saving it like the squirrel
For the impending winter

Well Winter's come and gone
The sun is gonna come
It's gonna shine on everyone

When she died she left a keepsake
With instructions to keep it safe.

She saved that smile for a special occasion.
