I have a story that is entirely about female characters, but some of them were male in the film. (Specifically, these are female reimaginings of Kirk and Cupcake.)

Is it appropriate to post it here?

I'm sorry not to have a very clear-cut answer for you, but it depends. If your story addresses in some way how life might be different for a girl Kirk or Cupcake, then yes, it is absolutely appropriate to post here. On other other hand, if it's more like "hey! Kirk's a girl!" then it doesn't really reflect the issues about women's lives that this community is intended to address. Does that make sense?

It does make sense, though I'm still not certain whether I should post here. Hmm.

Thanks for the response!

What igrockspock said (just be sure that canonically female characters are prominent in addition to the swapped ones) but to expand, here's a longer explanation of our policy that I hope will clear things up.

Sorry for the delay in answering!

Hello!

What is the policy for affiliations here? I have started a Star Trek/Decemberists fic challenge at picaresque_trek and I really want to attract writers who are into the female characters, because there could be some awesome stories. Am I allowed to promote it here?

Thanks in advance!

We don't do affiliates here -- but because I'm biased and think your comm idea is awesome (guess who got Hazards of Love fic for Yuletide?) I'll allow a promo post. You can use the tag rec: promo.

Hey mods! Just an issue that came up when I was tagging the new year drabblefest post: There are some characters who are featured in the drabbles who don't already have character tags, but due to my ignorance of non-AOS canon I don't know how to follow the conventions given in the "how to tag" post.

The ones I don't know how to tag are Kira Neyrs, Tora Ziyal, Naara (Degra's widower), and Kassidy Yates.

I wonder about female characters who don't have names but aren't original, like the Kelvin crewmember and the Narada communcations officer. I don't want to go beserk with tagging. Any thoughts whether there's a need for a tag for these kinds of characters? Like "unnamed canon female" to go with "original female character"? IDK!

ETA: Also, The Companion. Character tag? "miscellaneous gaseous lifeform" tag? "stop being so crazy and overthinking this" tag?

I'll take care of the non-AOS tags. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. :)

As for unnamed canon characters, I've reasoned so far that since they don't have names and they don't have lines there is not much about them that *isn't* original, but you're right that it seems weird to call them OFCs. I think this calls for a mod huddle.

I have an "unnamed spacewoman" tag in my LJ.
