A Celebration of Greatness
So I have seen fan fiction of Nyota Uhura, Janice Rand, ( currently writing one myself but in NuTrek) Christine Chapel, Gaila, Amanda Grayson,
Number One ( Eure- ) and in a discussion I came across this name.Lt Charlene Masters
The thing is, now that I am starting to write fanfiction, I am trying to do research on other Trek females. And I came across her.
I found out on Memory Alpha that she was
was a Starfleet Sciences division officer with engineering responsibilities aboard the Enterprise in 2267.
Yay !! with her own assistant GO Charlene!!!
And well this is wonderful cause it gives me another woman to play with. Janice, Christine and Nyota went on ascending higher positions and status in Starfleet after the tv show/ 5 year mission ended.
So are there any other obscure trek women I am missing out on? Of whom I can find insperation and weave a tale about in the Nu Trek Alt U?
Here are few facts ( expanded universe and Movies) that I love reading about our TOS Enterprising women and what they went on to accomplish
Christine Chapel : was a scientific researcher and aisitant before she joined Starfleet.
In 2270, Chapel decided to train for her doctorate, and upon the Enterprise's return to Earth, entered Starfleet Medical Academy to major in xenophysiology. (TOS novel: The Lost Years)
In 2289, Doctor Chapel was a member of Ambassador Sarek's diplomatic team. (Excelsior: Forged in Fire)
In 2298, Dr. Chapel, holding the rank of *Commander, served as chief medical officer on the USS Excelsior. (TLE novel: The Sundered)
Nyota Uhura : after starfleet went on to teach at Starfleet Academy
Also in 2293, Uhura left Starfleet and became the Senior Vice President in charge of Procurement and Delivery for Inter-Galactic Systems.
In 2295, Captain Spock assumed command of the Oberth-class USS Intrepid II, and Commander Uhura came aboard as first officer, for the ship's shakedown cruise.
By the 2300s, Captain Uhura was in command of the USS Hermes, and in 2301, the Hermes took aboard Doctors Gillian Taylor and Carol Marcus, who planned to test an experimental Genesis Device on the planet Pacifica.
In 2360, Admiral Uhura sent a team that included Lieutenants Benjamin Sisko, Selar and Tuvok on a covert mission behind the borders of the Romulan Star Empire to gather intelligence on the virulent disease called the gnawing that had been afflicting the Empire. (TLE novel: Catalyst of Sorrows)
*Admiral Uhura remained in command of Starfleet Intelligence throughout the Dominion War and the Watraii affair of 2377. (TOS novels: Exodus, Exiles)
Janice Rand
Following the Enterprise's return to Earth in 2278, Rand decided to undergo officer training, and was made an ensign in 2281.
She worked in her lieutenant grades a stint at Earth Spacedock in 2285,
When Captain Hikaru Sulu assumed command of the USS Excelsior in 2288, Sulu requested that newly-promoted *Lieutenant Commander Rand be assigned to the Excelsior as communications officer
Discrepancy note: In the DC Comics story Tests of Courage and all DC stories featuring the Excelsior crew that followed, Rand is referred to as Sulu's first officer.
I like the idea of Janice becoming a 1st Officer :-D
I guess I making this post cause it's wonderful to see my ladies ascend to greatness. It's inspiring and I appreciate this community cause in a lot of ways we celebrate their greatness here.
This post was more or less a pick me up.
