A month later, she finds him on a nude beach in Greece. He’s lying on a red and white striped towel, reading a newspaper, in nothing but his adorable hat. Although in fairness, she kept hers, too.

LOL Oh, the image.

Waldo's ethereal in this fic. Here and there and everywhere, just because, not to mention knowing where she's going. (Am I to assume the cane is magic like in the cartoon?)

Tee hee. That's one of my favorites lines.

Waldo's ethereal in this fic. Here and there and everywhere, just because,

You have just summed up exactly how I see him. I'm so glad that came through!

Am I to assume the cane is magic like in the cartoon?

...uh, sure, go with that. (I've actually never seen the cartoon. *g*)

Haha, I don't think many people have seen the cartoon, so that's why I asked. Hell, I watched it when I was a kid and didn't even remember it until I looked on YouTube.

The cane being magic would explain how Waldo seems to get around without any known source of income, though I think in the cartoon it opened other dimensions or something, not parts of the world.

My personal theory is that he's a researcher/writer for Lonely Planet Guidebooks or something similiar. But he's also *Waldo* so there's a little magic and mystery there for sure, whether or not it's the cane in particular.

...so, yes, this is marvelous.

The settings are gorgeous (the links definitely help), and I love all the little details - it's so evocative.

an idiotic minion who all but called her “scary boss lady” or an inexplicably lucky teenage detective filled with insufferable self-righteousness.

Hah! Yes, that would be Carmen's associations in a nutshell.

She has the Kasikci diamond in her pocket and the topkapi dagger tucked up in her hat.

Naturally!

I love that the park is full of randomly enthusiastic shippers =D

She has no idea how he knows that. God, if only her employees could be so competent.

“You ever consider a career in international crime?” she asks, only half joking.

Waldo's supercompetence has me awed too, Carmen. Me too.

Nude beach + bobble hat = lol.

"We'll find each other soon enough."

*flail*

I love this so hard.

*does a little victory dance* I really wanted to get a rich, exotic-but-real sense of place for this, since the crazy travels are, you know, basically why we're shipping them in the first place. *g* I'm really glad the links worked out for you to; I wasn't sure if they'd be too didactic/educational or if anyone would bother clicking. I've actually been to most of these places, so I wanted to share the...hmmm...*specificness* and *immediacy* of the places and also the the greater historical meaning/reality of them. Especially since it's Carmen. You're supposed to learn something.

I love that the park is full of randomly enthusiastic shippers =DTurkey's pretty conservative when it comes to PDAs, so I figured the crowd would react to a sudden French kiss a lot like a high school hallway - you know, noise and catcalls, but all chagrined and good-natured ( ... )

Finally had a chance to read this and just gotta say, I really love it. Thanks for the wiki links as it helped visualize the places and kinda kept it like the Carmen Games as you learn while being entertained. I love that Waldo's just always there and is all non-plussed about seeing Carmen everywhere also. I also love how you progressed their relationship and the fic has not a finite ending as their adventures will still keep on going. Great job! ^_^
