A Chest and Back day yesterday. Alli and I did the workout together, which was nice, though it took a little longer. I'm up to about 15 pullups now, but I'm still keeping around 164.5 or so. My lats are starting to come out and give me more of a "V" shape, which is cool. My guns are getting bigger, and my arms as a whole are looking pretty great, I think. I always had toned forearms because all I do all fricken day is wrench on things, but I finally have arms that are proportioned correctly. I burnt myself completely out with the workout (working to total failure), like I always do, and as usual, I'm still sore this morning. That's the kind of burn I want, though, so I know I gave it a good effort yesterday. In only two and a half weeks, I'm seeing great changes every day in my physique. It isn't fast by any stretch--in fact sometimes I wonder if I'm making the wrong food choices because my belly isn't going away fast enough for me, but mainly that's because I'm impatient.
Next week is a "recovery week," so the workouts will be more tilted toward cardio-based moves than strength-building ones--days 1 and 5 are Yoga, and 2 and 6 are a program called Core Synergistics, which I haven't done before. That's one of the nice things about this program as a whole, actually: It takes a while before you've gone through all of the programs, and therefore takes you a while to get bored. On Body For Life, you're doing the same workout every single week, and that gets really tedious after a while. It's a proven, great way to get on the stick with fitness and get yourself into a routine, but it does have its limitations.
Anyway, as per usual today is Plyometrics day, and I'm dreading it. It was a little easier last week--but only about this much: [---] We'll see how it goes. Maybe I'll actually be good enough at it to start doing some of their more difficult modified moves some day.
I'm going to try and figure a way to sneak a workout in while we're in Chicago this weekend. (Alli and I are going up there to satisfy our Catholic Pre Cana requirement with a retreat weekend--the kind where you spend the whole weekend talking about what you want out of your marriage, how you handle money, etc etc.) The retreat is a Friday night through Sunday afternoon deal, so I figure if we're going to be there at the church campus literally all weekend (they have dorm-style accomodations for sleeping and showers), I'm sure they'll give us a chance to do something with a little free time; I'm hoping I'll have the opportunity to snag a TV and throw the DVD in it for an hour. Hell, maybe I could get a workout group going. Welcome to church! It's time to sweat!
Anyway, I wish I had time to visit you guys while we're out there, but there just isn't any. In fact, on Sunday afternoon, we're leaving from the retreat and going straight to our reception site for food and cake tasting, because it was the only time we could fit it in. And Monday morning, I'm meeting Father Mike (the priest who's doing our ceremony) with my future mother in-law to go over details about the ceremony, costs, and all of the other crap we haven't been able to hit on because we're all planning from far away. Once the wedding is over, things will calm down a little, and I'll carve out some time to make it up to the Chi for a week and do nothing but hang out and catch up with everyone I never have time to see at Christmas.
Until then, I hope you all are well!
