About a week ago, I was watching the Disney channel, or ABC Family, or one of those, and this movie came on, called Another Cinderella Story. It's got Selena Gomez and Andrew Something-or-other in it. I watched it again a few nights later. It's your typical modern Cinderella story, pretty much. Mary, Selena Gomez's character, is adopted and raised by her mom's diva boss after her mom dies, and she pretty much has to do all the work around the house. Then one day, this pop star boy returns to the school where Mary and her two step-sisters go, and there's all this uproar. You know the story.
My point though, is that it was produced by Disney, and is a prime example of their way of working: take one of their manufactured pop stars and a not-exactly-original storyline, mix them together (shaken, not stirred), and you have a hit.
And somehow, some way, I love it. I watched that movie twice. I realized that cheesy Disney movies are my very guilty pleasure. And I hate myself a little more every time I watch one. But I can't stop.
