So I got on the red eye to New York last night. The plane was about to take off as scheduled till they realized that one of three generators was busted, had to go back so it could be repaired, but decided that repairing it would take too long, so they would instead load up on extra fuel to overwork the other two generators. The pilot assured us that this was FAA approved.
There were apparently multiple medical emergencies, and they were trying to find doctors on board. I, of course, missed this, as I was, of course, asleep.
When I woke up, they announced that we'd land in about 10 minutes, half an hour later, the captain comes on saying that there were visibility problems so we couldn't get our landing cleared, then noted that we had only 15-30 minutes of fuel left, you know, given that we were flying on a busted generator and all.
Landed 2 hours late at 9am, in surprisingly one piece. Caught a cab to Vera's, where a Jamaican guy was blasting Au Bal Masque type music. He was singing along too. Had a tiff with the cabbie on credit card payment options. Got to Vera's at 10, hopped into bed with her, and we both woke up at 4pm. We just had toast and English muffins.
I'm going to a comedy club tonight, and we'll see where the night takes me.
I love New York.
