Can I just say that I was listening to Fairy Godmother Song from Shrek 2, and that piece of furniture was like "give Fiona a call" and I thought it was the dragon buddy icon I have on AIM. I was so convinced of it, before I remembered that it was in the song. And now I'm disappointed. Last night I learned that Gradon has a phrase I'd never heard before...illusory_thrill and I were talking about what Annette O'Toole smells like, or something, and Gradon was like "Something's burning!" lmao, he is so awesome. Animated dragons ftw.

Totally not apropos of that, but I'm so pissed about something:

Back to You didn't get picked up, reportedly because Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton are too expensive. FUCK YOU, FOX. What the HELL?! Of course they're expensive! They have Emmys! They're top-notch comedic actors. They're a fantastic investment, which is one of the reasons the show is so strong. It gets great ratings. I've had sitcoms be cancelled despite being really good, but I've never known one to be cancelled based on the things that made it really good. Television is becoming so ridiculous. And so many people have said BTY sucks for not pushing the envelope and being more like 30 Rock, and you know what? The traditional sitcom has been around since, what, the 50's? Just think about how many people watched Will & Grace, Friends, Frasier, Raymond--and these are just the ones from my time. People love traditional sitcoms with sharp wit and characters they feel close to, and no way are they ready to ditch them completely for something new. This really bums me out because my goal in life is to write for shows like this, and apparently they're not worth being on TV anymore, so I officially don't have a career until they make a comeback. Sure, there are a few shows, like 'Til Death and Rules of Engagement, but they're not that good. Ugh. No offense, because I love those shows, but there's a huge difference between them and a show like Back to You or Out of Practice. I didn't love OOP as much as BTY, but it too was amazing and had a stellar cast (not counting Stockard Channing....burn.) with amazing interactions. Whatever, I digress, this is just such a huge slap in the face. I mean, I basically watch Friends every night before I go to bed just because it makes me feel so happy and comfortable, and I think it's really important that we have shows with that kind of an effect.

patricia heaton, back to you
