When the shower turned off, Adam couldn't resist looking up from the magazine he was reading to peek at Kris. Water was still dripping from Kris's skin as he towel dried his hair. It was crazy how hot Kris could get him so fast. If he had a choice, he really thought he could stay naked with Kris forever, well as long as they were fucking, too.
Adam's smile faded in the next instant when Kris ran his fingers over the bruises that still predominately showed on his skin. Shame washed over Adam at what he'd done. Never before had he ever left marks like that on anyone, especially not to someone he loved as much as Kris.
"I'm sorry," he said, going to stand behind Kris and covering the marks with his own hands. If anything had happened to Kris in the last week, Adam wouldn't have stood a chance of defending himself. Embedded in Kris's shoulder were his teeth marks while his fingers had left bruises of varying shades of black and blue on his hips.
"I’m not," Kris said, meeting his eyes in the mirror. He reached behind him to take Adam's hands so he could wrap his arms around his waist. "If I had a choice, they'd never fade."
Astonished, Adam could barely speak, but he managed to stammer out a single word. "Why?"
"Because I've never mattered to anyone so much that they would lose control." Kris leaned back against Adam. "It's proof of what we are together."
"You're amazing," Adam said. It was on the tip of his tongue to declare his love, but somehow he couldn't get the words out. "How did I ever get so lucky to find you?"
"I feel the same way." Kris sighed. "I hate to jinx us, but it's getting late in the show. Two of us are going to get kicked off this week."
It was the same fear that Adam held, but they had kept pushing the looming reality of separation away. They had kept spending every day as if it was never going to end. Now with so few left, they were at the point where they really needed to talk about it.
"I talked to some friends of mine here in L.A.," Adam placed a kiss on Kris's shoulder hoping he wouldn't be mad that he'd made plans without talking to him first. "They said you could crash with them and Doug is one of them. He said you were more than welcome to stay with him and Steve."
"You discussed it with other people before me?"
There wasn't anger on Kris's face only a widening of the eyes as he stared at Adam in the mirror.
"I get scared, too," Adam confessed as softly as he could. "And I've been trying to handle things like you asked…"
"It's okay," Kris said, turning so they were facing each other. He cupped Adam's face. "I'm sorry." He chuckled without humor. "I've even refused to think about it so to hear you've been making plans just surprised me."
"I don't want you to feel like you have to go back to Arkansas if you don't want to," Adam said. He just didn’t know what Kris wanted. For all he knew his plans could blow up in his face. "At least for right now."
"I don't," Kris shook his head. "I want to be where you are and if it's not at the mansion then I want to be as close as I can get."
"You have no idea of how relieved I am to hear you say that," Adam sighed. "We haven't talked about the future and yeah, I know a lot of that is my fault, but I don't want you to be too far away."
"I'm sorry if I've made you feel that I don't want to be with you," Kris leaned his forehead against Adam's chin. "I'll do what I have to do to stay here in Los Angeles."
"Um, there's more," Adam said in a rush. He needed to get everything out while they were talking so openly. It was something new in their relationship and he didn't want to lose the momentum of the moment. "My parents said they'd help us with money until we get paid for the tour and stuff."
"You really have this planned out, don't you?"
Kris was studying him as if his head had exploded all over the room or maybe his heart. The look in those brown eyes was too intense and it was scaring Adam. It was as if Kris could see into every dark corner of Adam. Discovering all those fears and dreams that no one knew about. But he could also see how much Kris cared about him, so he gritted his teeth to wait out Kris's inspection. He just wondered why he couldn't say the words that would make it plain what he wanted from this relationship. He was too scared to let that much go and he just prayed that Kris would stay if he did see those dark things.
"I've laid awake a few nights thinking about it." Adam said when Kris finally blinked and his body relaxed a little in Adam's arms.
"So, that's where you've been," Kris said, with a grin. "It's been a little lonely." He laughed. "I was beginning to think we'd gotten to the point when it was just about the sex. And you were only cuddling with me because you felt like it was another step in the procedure."
Adam laughed. "Yeah. Sure, babes, I just want that body of yours."
Kris pinched his side, as his face grew sober again. "Thank you for making plans for me. What happens if it's you that gets kicked off the show?"
Adam missed Kris smiling. "So, not going to happen. Haven't you read the tabs? It's going to be me and Gokey in the finale."
"Asshole," Kris said, smiling again but then he pretended to shudder. "If that happens I'll call in every favor from every person I know to have them vote to make sure you win."
"Thanks," Adam said. "I knew I could count on you."
Laughing, Kris pretended to punch him the stomach. "Of course you can, but…"
"Well, I can promise that if I get voted off that I won't go back to Arkansas." He chuckled. "Sorry, but I couldn't help teasing you." After giving Kris a quick kiss, he answered Kris's question, "I also asked those same friends if I could crash with them. We'll be okay, no matter what happens."
Kris's hand slipped into his. "It's a relief to know that there are plans. Now, I can just relax and worry about surviving another week."
"You're not going anywhere," Adam assured him. "America likes you too much."
"I hope so," Kris said. "And as much as I appreciate you making these plans." He looked down as if avoiding Adam. "I want you to kind of be in charge, but you don't have to treat me like I'm totally helpless…like one of those housewives from the fifties, ya know the whole barefoot and pregnant thing?"
"What?" Adam laughed making his eyes wide when Kris looked back up at him. "You're not completely helpless?" He glanced downwards. "Besides I've already got you barefoot, but unless you're hiding a vagina," he cupped Kris's cock. "I think the last part is going to be a problem." He started to back Kris up, toward the bed. His hands stroked Kris's length while Kris giggled. "Nope." He slid his hand down so he could tease at Kris's ass. "And that feels like the butt I like to fuck." He wrapped an arm around Kris so he could lay him on the bed.
"Would you stop?" Kris begged, through fits of laughter. He tried to push Adam away with a foot but ended up rubbing Adam's hip with it instead.
Adam grabbed Kris's knees pushing them apart. He pretended to study Kris's equipment. "Nope, sorry, you're definitely all man. So, I guess the pregnant part is out" He leaned forward to run his tongue along Kris's cock that was quickly coming to attention. He stood up, smacking Kris's hip. "The van is leaving in thirty minutes. Don't be late."
"You're mean," Kris chortled as he flopped dramatically back on the bed. "I am so going to get you back for this."
Adam stopped on the way to the door to ask. "Yeah, how are you going to do that?" He felt triumphant when Kris's face twisted in confusion as he tried to figure it out. That feeling faded when Kris snapped his fingers.
"I don't know, but I've got people I can call to help out."
"Yeah, you do," It was true. Kris was gaining friends. Friends that not only knew Adam, but that were also gay. It was exactly what Drake had said that Adam was afraid was going to happen. Adam felt his good mood fade. Not wanting to do anything to screw up the good vibes between them, he practically ran out the door.
"Love ya, Adam," Kris called out as the door closed between them.
It was a joke, Adam told himself as he stood trembling in the hallway. He didn't mean it. Why don't you open the damn door and find out if he did or not? He was too scared to go back in the bedroom. If it were true, it would hurt Kris if he couldn’t say the words in return and it would hurt him if Kris had been joking. So he pretended he didn't hear and hurried upstairs to wait with the others.
