The weekend started with a quiet Friday night at home. We made dinner and watched battlestar galactica - we caught up with last weeks episode that we missed on InDemand and then watched this weeks new episode. One of the things I find interesting about this show is the spiritual battle between the Pagan Humans (specifically Hellenic Pagan humans, even if they are from another galaxy) and the monotheistic Cylons. During one scene Lee Adama pointed out that the Cylons were prepared to die and he knew that because they were reciting the "Cloud of Unknowing" which, apparently in their universe, is a prayer that is only spoken at the end of ones life. Well, in that instance I was glad I had so many friends interested in Christian Mysticism because I was familiar with the Cloud of Unknowing. However, since it is actually a long manuscript it would be unwieldy to recite when you are close to death. It might be best to start when you're about a month from dying...
"Here beginneth a book of contemplation, the which is called the CLOUD OF UNKNOWING, in the which a soul is oned with GOD.
Here Beginneth the Prayer on the Prologue
GOD, unto whom all hearts be open, and unto whom all will speaketh, and unto whom no privy thing is hid. I beseech Thee so for to cleanse the intent of mine heart with the unspeakable gift of Thy grace, that I may perfectly love Thee, and worthily praise Thee. Amen."

Anywho, then on Saturday we got up and putzed about the house for a while. We had invited
kitanzi and
autographedcat over for dinner and gaming.
oneandonlymatt and I went out before they came over and bought some Lambic. It is currently my favorite alcoholic beverage. Mmm, frothy and fruity!
At about 5ish, our guests arrived and
kitanzi was armed with a homemade chocolate bunt cake that looked divine. We would discover much later that it was, in fact, divine. I made some home made mac and cheese and some stuffed pork chops (those weren't home made, I bought those premade...I'm not that good a cook).
After dinner we played Munchkin Bites - which was a lot of fun. Then we took advantage of the aforementioned chocolate cake and sat around conversing for a while. I have mentioned it before, but good friends and good conversation are two of my favorite things.
This morning we woke up early and went to church. Last week, at church, we got a shopping list and were asked to purchase everything on it and bring it back this week so they could make up thanksgiving dinner baskets for people who wouldn't otherwise have a thanksgiving dinner. We bought our basket full of stuff and had a lot of fun doing it and took it back this morning. It was heartwarming to see all the other bags of food that people had brought in.
The service was lovely to - Northwest UU always does their Thanksgiving service the sunday before and it just helps me get into the spririt of the season. There was a lot of music people sharing some of their own thanksgiving memories and traditions.
After church we went to the Derby only to realize the game today wasn't until 4pm. So we ended up at a New Orleans style restaurant for a brunch buffet because we were starving. Then we went home and chilled for a bit before we headed back up to the Derby to watch a terrible football game which was predictably lost by the Lions. Yay...go Lions.
I only work two days this week. On wednesday we fly up to Detroit for what appears to be shaping up to be an excellent holiday.
Now I am watching Extreme Home Makeover which is always a big cryfest for me - but I do have the worst cry reflex in the universe.
