Adventures with Housewrap

This weekend was a lot of hard work. Not that most weekends up in Asheville aren't, but this weekend was particularly hard. On Saturday we got up and cut out the gable end windows. Then we did some more insulation and drew up plans for the interior walls. After that, we went to dinner at Bacchus Bistro and then back into Asheville. We called it a night early in preparation for Sunday's work.

Sunday we had to learn how to use an air compressor and a staple gun in order to housewrap. If you are unfamiliar with Housewrap, you've probably see it. When you drive by a house under construction and it is covered in a white material usually labeled Tyvek - that is housewrap. Truth is, we didn't have to do it because of the type of siding we are using but we decided to anyway. Heck, we've overbuilt this house at every other stage of the game. So we thought to ourselves - "We are gift wrapping a 120 square foot house - how hard can that be?" As it turns out - it isn't easy. We didn't really get a good start on it until 2pm and in order to do it properly we had to have me inside and Matt constantly up and down the ladder lining the wrap up with the top of the house and stapling it down. Over and over. Then we realized we made an error in measuring out the housewrap - total rookie mistake, the house isn't that big. So we had to get more to do the other half of the house. That isn't a problem though as typical houses are too large to use just one sheet so overlap is completely normal. It took us a while, but we got it all done - except for the gable ends - and now that we know how to do it that shouldn't take too long next time. (Really). We didn't make it out of North Carolina until after 7pm and we didn't get back to Atlanta until about 11.

Needless to say, I am a little tired today but not as bad as I could be.

The next weekend up there is the 19th through the 21st of March and I have Friday off. Our friend is coming down from Michigan to do the electrical wiring. We've got some other friends coming too so we should have some fun.
