50 Book Challenge

So, a lot of my friends do the 50 book challenge. Last year I tried to do a Media Log where I cataloged all of the things I read, saw or listened too - but I was unable to keep up. So, I decided to do a 50 book challenge. I am certain I read that many books or more a year, so I'd like to see how I really do.

1. Greek Lyric: An Anthology in Translation by Andrew M. Miller.
I asked for and got this book for Christmas. It is used as a textbook for classics courses, I imagine, but it is a great collection of poetry and fragments. It has the usuals, of course, like Sappho and Pindar but also includes many others. I also decided to make a quick indexing guide - I made tabs for the pages if they included a poem about or to a specific God and wrote the God's name on the tab. That way, if I am looking for something specific I can find it very easily.

2. The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood
Margaret Atwood is by far my favorite author of all time. I have read everything she has published and loved every word. Year of the Flood is a companion book to Oryx and Crake - a work of speculative fiction depicting the end of civilization. Year of the Flood is not a sequel or a prequel as both books take place at exactly the same time. They stories are interwoven beautifully. You can read Year of the Flood without reading Oryx and Crake first, but you should really read them both.
