Hi All. I just wanted to recap my holiday experience. Move along if you aren't interested.

Our holiday started on December 20th. Matt and I like to exchange our gifts before we go up to Michigan. That way we don't haul all the stuff up and back. We had a nice night with a bottle of wine, some tapas type dinner and some gifts. The highlight from this year, besides the trip to Green Bay, was a beautiful statue of Hades. Matt got it for me because I had all the Olympians, and I have a shine to Persephone he thought that Hades would be a perfect addition. I'll take a picture of the updates and post soon. The highlight for Matt was a ring. See, when he was about 20 his mom gave him a ring of his Dad's. He lost that ring. He's been kind of sad about it since. I found a very similar ring. He was pleased.

I worked on Friday the 21st. We had a lunch in the office and exchanged gifts here in the office. It was a very quiet day in regards to staffing. I kicked everyone out by 4:30. I was here until 5:30, but traffic was light going home and we were able to leave out of town by (after stopping for dinner). The drive up north was uneventful. We stopped in Lexington for the night.

We got to Detroit on Saturday the 22nd. That night we went out with dreamsidhe and her boyfriend. You may have seen the after effects of that visit. *grin*

On the 23rd we met some friends at a place called Dragonmeade Brewery. They make lots of flavors of beer, of course, but also Mead (big surprise) and it was the best mead I have ever had. That night, however, we ended up having to take Matt's mom to the hospital. Her blood pressure went really high and she had a severe nose bleed. They got everything under control and sent her home.

On the 24th, we went to dinner with my folks. We went to a place called Filippa's. The last time I was there was in 1988! The food was fantastic. We got back to Matt's mom's house and had mimosas with her friends before they all went to Midnight Mass. Then we watched some television. Next thing we know, Matt's mom was back with another bloody nose and we were back at the hospital. There was still a problem with her blood pressure. Later in the week, her doctor put her on a new medication and she is doing well now.

We took it pretty easy on Christmas day. Matt's brother and his girlfriend came over and we opened presents and had breakfast. Matt and I went to see Golden Compass. Then I helped Ethel prepare dinner - we had the most yummiest stuffed shells! One kind was a beef and spinach mixture in a red sauce and the other was the cheese in a white sauce. Both were so yummy it hurt. I plan to make them myself sometime.

On the 26th we went to my mom's house for the holiday with my family. Mom, dad, brother, sister, BIL, two nephews. It was a great day. We ate lunch, opened presents, played games. I got to hear my oldest nephew play the cello which he only just started at the beginning of this school year. He's good! We also hear the younger nephew play piano - he is really good and has been playing for a while. That night, Matt, my brother and myself went to see Sweeny Todd - which I LOVED.

On the 27th, we tried to meet our friend BJ to see a local artist that we really like - however the local artist wasn't there even though it said he would be on the website. We ended up getting Buddy's Pizza (I miss midwestern pizza) and then going to a starbucks and chatting until they kicked us out.

On the 28th we met with some of the folks that were in Matt's old band, Superfiction, and they played music for a while. Then we went over to the guitar player's house and hung out. Dann has the COOLEST Hellenic themed bathroom - and he isn't even Hellenic! It is painted dark blue. There are statues of Artemis and Hermes and a picture of Poseidon. It was so awesome! I covet it.

On the 29th we began our trek to Green Bay Wisconsin with a guy Matt works with and some friends of his. The drive was relatively uneventful. We got to Green Bay in the afternoon and drank at the hotel bar and then went to Titletown, a local brewery and restaurant. While there, we wrangled up every Lions fan in Wisconsin and sang the Lions Fight Song VERY LOUDLY in the restaurant. The packers fans were not amused. We ended up back at the hotel and there was ridiculous karaoke and mini bowling. Eventually, Matt and I went to bed.

We were up bright and early to go see the Lions game against the Packers at Lambeau Field. Once someone told me that going to see a game at Lambeau field was something they needed to do before they died. So, when I got the opportunity to go I couldn't pass it up. It is a really incredible experience. There is nothing but football in that town. We went to the tailgate party at the Brett Farve steakhouse and then went into the stadium. It is pretty big, lots of people crowded together. The temperature was around 25 for the game. We were bundled to the max. The only thing that sucked about the game was...the game. The Lions looked like they had simply given up. We left about half way through the 4th quarter. We drove straight back, although I had wanted to stop at my sister's house. We weren't able to, though, because of the following day's events...

A wedding at a motorcycle game club house. I mean, really...who could pass that up! So Dann, of Matt's old band, is friends with a guy who belongs to the Hell's Our Home motorcycle gang. He was getting married and asked Dann and his new band to play in the ceremony and then after dinner. Dann, in turn, asked Matt to play since their current drummer couldn't make it. A biker wedding is everything you might expect it to be.

After the wedding "reception" Matt and I made the game time decision to head home rather than stay for Midnight. We heard that a big storm was rolling in and we didn't want to take the chance of being snowed in. Turns out to have only been minor, but we are glad we didn't find that out the hard way. We drove back to Lexington KY and stayed the night. (We celebrated New Year's in the car itself...we looked at the car clock and when it said 12:00 we said Yay!)

Now we are back and getting into the swing of things in Atlanta.

However, the other TOTALLY cool news that I found out today...
dreamsidhe is coming down to Atlanta for DRAGON*CON! Yay! Dance! Yay! I am so excited. Some of you Atlanta folk will get to meet her at the con that weekend.

detroit, dragon*con, friends, christmas, green bay wisconsin, new year's eve, michigan, detroit lions
