So, you'd think I'd be used to this by now. This whole fandom weirdness. How it's supposed to be fun, but is only about half of the time.
This is the problem, being the fan of a musician who didn't come up through conventional channels. You have all these people who don't understand how music works, or how to be a music fan. There's a transition happening. I just hope he can shake some of these people off. Purely for selfish reasons. Namely that they annoy me with their white hatting and their oversensitivity and their rampant not-getting-it.
And here's what I don't get. OK, the fandom fanwarred with the Archuleta fans. AI is at it's core a combination between musical entertainment and sports, which is why it's so successful. But that need to clash carries over into his post show musical career. They pit him against other acts on the charts and measure album sales and radio play like box scores and standings. I get that too.
But what I don't get his fanwarring him with his own band, his musical collaborators and closest friends. Really don't get that. Never will.
