In which I weigh in on the election, but not about Obama so much, no.

I know that I was one of eleventy jillion people who were so emotional and moved and excited when Obama stepped in front of the podium in Grant Park on election night after winning the race. He started his speech by saying:

If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.

I have to say that Obama winning isn't what made me believe all things were possible during this election (although, it certainly was awesome) -- it was Stu Rasmussen. Stu has been mayor of Silverton, OR for several terms, but this past term he came out as transgender. And the world kept on moving, the town focused on the issues, and he was elected to office yet again because the town decided that he remained the right person for the job.

In a country where three states chose to discriminate against gays and lesbians and deny them a basic civil right, I can at least be heartened by one small town that has its priorities in check.
