So i have noticed lately that i am often the subject of really bizarre coincidences. Coincidences that really have no affect on my life as a whole, but still seem strange.
For example, i read two books in a row where the main character was a fictional member of the
Abstract Expressionists stationed in New York in the 40's and 50's. I did not know that about either of the books before that, and i read them shortly before going to the Met. in New York and being able to view paintings by a lot of the (real) artists mentioned in the two books.
Also, i keep coming back to this guy
Douglas Hofstadter. I got to him because of a book he wrote, which was linked to the wikipedia page of
MC Escher. My interest in MC Escher is primarily rooted to a coffee table book that i got while at the Lehigh Valley Mall with Joel (more on him later). In the two days after my original discovery of Hofstadter, i ended up seeing him referenced on wikipedia three times by pure happenstance, through random article searches and links from other, mostly unrelated pages, and i also remembered him being mentioned in my philosophy of science fiction class.
I also keep coming back to the page for the guru
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. I really don't remember how i got to him originally (i think it was a list of charismatic leaders of religions), but i ended up on his page again a little later (again, i don't remember how), but today i got to it again through the
Natural Law Party. I looked that up on wikipedia after viewing Joel's (surprise!) facebook. He happened to change his profile picture, and the new feed told me so, so i clicked his profile, out of i think 29 others who did the same, and i saw that he had a religion listed (christian-presbyterian i think). I then went to edit my own profile, just to see what options they had. After becoming bored with that, i started looking at political parties, and one that happened to come up was the Natural Law party. I had no idea what it was, so i looked it up, and saw that it was connected to the page for Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
Maybe it is just me, but i feel like these sets of coincidences are a bit odd, especially the last two since they are both related to Joel, someone i went to college with for a year and hung out with occassionally, but haven't talked to in some time, and we were never close.
It all reminds me of I <3 Huckabees
In other, more sad news, one of our (fairly) new cats, Elwood Jake Blues, died today. That makes four cats in the past 8 months or so, and that has to be a record, even for the Sherry family. He didn't get hit on the road; he got sick, and was really weak and could barely move, and eventually he died. Sad, i know. Whenever we get two cats, one just seems to die from getting sick. I think Petey also died in much the same way, though i wasn't around for that.
