Title: Made of Steam
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Rating: R
Character: Kendra
Setting: Steampunk AU
Summary: Kendra in a steampunk alternative universe where she fights vampires and rides around with Mr. Zabuto in a zeppelin.

Kendra threw her tweed jacket on the nearest table, set with a calico cloth and bone china, before pulling out her pistols from their shoulder holsters. She planted two blessed bullets into Sebastian Murray's head. A fine mist of black vampire blood hit her starched white collar as it exploded.

The former undead master of the city flopped back out of his chair.

She was already shooting the bodyguards to his left and his right with both hands before they had even dropped their blood-filled tea cups.

The other patrons were scampering away back to their warrens where they would gossip and scheme. The underworld was like a hydra, but this was why she was chosen, to cull their bloodthirsty ranks.

Putting the flashy ivory-handled pistols away in the shoulder holsters, she ran out of the tea room and up the winding hall to the iron-wrought lift.  The sound of heels clanking against the floor in a run sounded behind her but she slipped in the contraption and soared up in a cloud of steam. She made a break for the roof exit once she reached the top floor. Bursting through the door into the warm night with a smile, she yelled for her watcher, Mr. Zabuto, in the awaiting zeppelin. "The deed is done."

The gaunt old man nodded and pulled up the smaller dangling anchors.

Kendra climbed the biggest chained anchor to the deck of the battered and compact airship before pulling it up. "Another vampire is dust, sir."

"Job well done." Mr. Zabuto navigated the ship up into the starry sky above the steamy city.

Trolleys and trains rattled in the distance as millions of people worked, lived, and died below. Kendra leaned against the rail and smiled down at them. They were all a little more safe tonight.

The airship drifted across the heavens and Kendra knew there was nowhere else that she would rather be.
