I was mulling this over as a possibility for either Round 5 or Round 10. It wouldn't be a permanent change, but just something to mix things up for a round.
I know a lot of other 20in20 communities do this (in fact I think the startrek20in20 alternates between episodes of a series and characters of a series per rounds). I think it would be interesting perhaps like, having one round be a claiming round and another being iconist's choice of subjects based on the categories and the like.
Yeah between the other comms that do it all/most of the time, and topsell doing a self-imposed all comics submission last round (along with other people who have done all Dollhouse/all Buffy/all *whatever show* submissions), I thought it might be interesting to try.
And categories would be chosen so that they would be easy to do no matter your claim (so it wouldn't be OMG I HAVE TO FIND A CAP OF ______ EATING/SLEEPING/WALKING/WEARING GLASSES or whathaveyou.)
Yeah, truth be told I was planning on doing an all Dollhouse this round to try and raise some attention for the show with Fox on the verge of canning it outright it seems, so I can understand that. I'm doing Victor/Sierra for scifipair20in20 for a similar reason.
And easy categories would be nice. One of my other 20in20 challenges has Pop Art this round *headdesk*
One of the things I like about this 20in20 best is that I can use whatever suits me. I can use any and all characters that I want. I can cap from all 7 seasons of Buffy, throw Angel seasons 1-5 in there, use any of the Jossverse shows all in one and not have to worry about being restricted. This is my fave 20in20 for that reason. I participate in several other 20in20s and sometimes it's hard to find the perfect cap to match the theme/category when I'm restricted to one character or one episode.
I also think that you would have to allow more than one person claim a character because there are a lot of us that love to icon Faith, Willow, etc.
Ultimately, it's up to you, but this is just my two cents worth. :) I'd still participate. I love it here!
Yeah exactly my reasons for making it like that in the first place. haha. XD
Like I commented to juliet316, I would chose categories that round that were like: negative space, b&w, texture, required stock, etc, etc. That way it wasn't a cap finding difficulty, because I hate when I can't find a cap that fits because they theme is so restrictive. They would be more technical that round.
Omg, I know. I was also thinking beyond Character/Show to include individual episodes (where you could still do a lot of one character), or actors (where you could use them in any of the shows they were in. (So in that way more than one person could technically be doing Faith icons/Willow icons, or just iconning the crap out of Nathan Fillion. haha.
I really like the idea of having a round every once in a while where you claim an episode of a show. So far, I've only seen Firefly/Serenity out of all of the Whedon shows, so when there's a theme that's more Buffy/Angel/Dr. Horrible specific it makes it way more difficult to icon. That being said, I love the fact that this comm covers all of the Whedon shows, so that there's more variety then just a Firefly or Buffy 20in20 comm (though I'm sure those would be awesome too :D ).
I think it's a good idea but since I do that anyway so I'm sort of biased (I also find it slightly easier, but that's just me). As has been said, methinks, the themes and the like would have to be pretty standard. And maybe a couple of people would be able to do them?

Yeah I was also planning on going Dollhouse heavy (specifically Season Two Dollhouse heavy) for similar reasons.
I would have no idea what to do with pop art. lol.
