I'm taking a van load of old kitchen to the dump today. After that, the van will be empty so I can pick up the countertop for the part of the kitchen we're working on.
I was all set to do the final prep for installing the cabinets when I found more water damaged sub-floor, probably from an old leak in the icemaker connection. Between the water damage in the old part of the kitchen and the dog damage in the room the kitchen is being extended into, we will end up replacing about 3/4 of the sub floor in the kitchen! I don't understand why anyone thought particle board was ok for subfloor in potentially wet areas.
There's no fire damage to the original floor in this area, but it seems to be covered in old cooking grease! It looks like the original owners put a new layer of vinyl down instead of cleaning the floor!
