typist: the American elections are in two days. therefore, it is time for Election AU.

*Polonius is at the airport, having disembarked from Claudius's campaign plane after a rally in Århus. went rather well, he thinks, considering that the population is on average fairly young and might be expected to support Hamlet in the election.*

typist: ( Read more... )

*and here's Osric, huddled around his cell phone, barely checking his volume and making up for it in intensity* --well, your polling data's messed up. What demographics are you surveying? Are you even, like, paying attention to demographics? *a pause* Look, just get in touch with professional pollsters, mmmkay? Bye.

Weird, sir. Just ... really weird. Is there seriously, like, a Norwegian candidate?

*frowns* Prince Fortinbras of Norway has announced his candidacy, yes. Though I do not think he is pursuing too active of a political campaign.

I thought that was just, you know, tabloid garbage. You mean he's seriously ...?

Indeed. It is unlikely that he will win, but yes.

*shakes his head slowly* This is not The West Wing, Osric. Danish law is different.

*unimpressed* Because Norway used to be a real power here?

That, and the lack of actual constitutional requirements for the monarch to be a citizen. If Barack Obama, for example, were to run, he would not only be able to but would probably win many more votes than some of the smaller candidates running now.

typist: so I looked more into it and apparently in real life it's only an elected position if there's no heir. so we could throw reality totally out the window, or say that there's an election because of competing claims or something...but basically I am unrealistically stealing bits of American politics because this AU probably won't last long. ^____~

You're telling me. *eyeroll* My girlfriend keeps talking about how hot he is.

typist: *nodnod* but clearly, in the play, it was a more complicated procedure, so! we get to play around. like Shakespeare. ^_~

*probably knows this about Osric's personal life, but that doesn't mean he wants to discuss it* Returning to the poll results, Osric.
