I have recently decided to begin training to compete in triathalons. For those who don't know that means swimming, running, biking. So over the past couple of weeks I have spent a few days in the pool trying to figure out how to become a smooth swimmer. It doesn't happen overnight, but I am improving. I finally got the keeping my head down on the left stroke and turning my body for a breath on the right stroke, which is a huge step for me. So I'm happy right now. And swimming is a GREAT workout. Man, that whips you quick. Aside from swimming I went for a run last week that felt pretty good. Just over 2 miles for the first time in almost a year. I also took the bike out once and that killed. I can see I have a lot of work do if I'm going to be in shape to do all three of these things one after the other, let alone one per day.
Aside from this I have also been golfing a few times in the past few weeks to prepare for a golf tournament that will be participating the week after Labor Day. Golfing is something that I've been interested in for a while, but never really understood. Thanks to the coaching of Terry Wentz, I am getting a better understanding for things. He has a lot of good advice and its getting fun to be able to hit good shots more consistently. I said good, not great. Hopefully that will develop in the future.
I've also been playing volleyball in a league with some people from work. Its 4's sand volleyball, which is much different than 6's indoor. You have to move a lot more and be a little more aggressive, which is good for me because in indoor I was always the guy playing on the right side of the court when I started on the left. I'm still not very good, but I'm improving.
And in the midst of all this I haven't found time to play my beloved basketball in almost two weeks. Actually I could have played yesterday, but I was in a meeting until noon, which didn't give me enough time to get to the gym in time for when they typically start.
Oh yeah, and I've also signed up to participate for Biomet in a YMCA Corporate Challenge in the Tug-a-war, billiards tournament, wall climb (if I can make it to the top), and ultimate frisbee. This will all take place on various weekends throughout September.
I love sport!
