I was at lunch yesterday and I drove by what had to be the fourth “Safety Belt Enforcement Zone” in the past week. I have only come across these in Warsaw, which makes me wonder whether the rest of the state or country is going hog wild like we are here in Pig City. These things are kind of ridiculous because about 100 feet before the intersection where the cop is positioned, they have a HUGE orange sign that says “Safety Belt Enforcement Zone”, so as to warn those who are not buckled that they better do it quick.
Anyway, I’m driving through and as I’m going through the intersection I notice someone pulled over in front of me with a police cruiser stopped behind them. “What an idiot,” I thought to myself, “Buckle up or ticket, stupid!”
After I cruised through the McDonalds just down the street and was returning to the public roadway, I noticed the car still sitting there and again, I said to myself, “Buckle up or ticket! HA!” I said “HA” because I think its funny to say “buckle up” instead of “click it”. Get it? No? Well, you’re dumb.
So as I said the phrase in my head again it reminded me of the old slogan they had when I was a kid: “Buckle up for safety”. And then I remembered that before “Click it or ticket” there was “Buckle up, it’s the law”. This made me think; are we as humans so stubborn and/or lazy that a government safety campaign will not make us buckle up to save our own lives, but being threatened with a fine will?
I just don’t get it. I personally find the snug hug of a safety belt to be comforting as I’m engaging in motorized ground transportation. So, my friends I encourage you if you don’t already:
BUCKLE UP! SO THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE YOU DON’T HAVE TO GO THROUGH A TRAGIC LOSS...AND BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T YOU'RE AN IDIOT!
