House and Murphy's kid is what's technically classed as "an accident". When Murphy tells House she's pregnant, they have a huge fight which results in neither of them seeing each other again for close to three months. House doesn't want a kid and he's not entirely convinced Murphy wants a kid, even though she refuses to get an abortion when he tells her to do something about it

It's all so detailed and exactly how things would probably go between the two of them. That ending kills me though. Great work.

Careful, AU addiction is a slippery slope, lol.

And AU isn't something I even like that much, save for certain exceptions! And yet.

I need an AU twelve step program at this point, lol. I can think them up at the drop of a hat and often do.

I haven't forayed into AU much. I typically stick pretty close to canon (as you may have noticed). Though, these two kid!'verses I've thumped out here have shown me how much fun AU really could be.

The real trick to AUs is remembering to stay as close to canon as possible in what you're doing. If you go too far, you lose the canon appeal of it.

Yeah, which is my issue with a lot of AUs. I've come across some AU House fic that has a really interesting premise... and just falls flatter than a bum note because it strays so far from canon recognition - characterisation-wise in particular, which is a huge nitpick of mine - that I might as well be reading original fiction.

I will admit I can wander into crazy AU worlds every now and then, but I prefer AUs like House/Murphy, where it's just Murphy's found herself on a different TV show. Everyone has the same characterization, there are just new interactions.
