Your kids see you living life, and that ain't always pretty. They see you working, and getting a divorce, and changing smelly diapers. They see you getting angry, crying, being sad, being happy. You hug them and talk to them and kiss their hurts, the ones you can see and the ones you can't. You read to them, walk with them, watch movies with them, go to the library. Sometimes you are at the top of your game and handling everything with aplomb. Other times, you don't handle things as well as you might. They are there when you are laughing and having fun and playing with YOUR friends. They see you sharing a glass of wine, comiserating, and sometimes drowning your sorrows. They see you being HUMAN. If all they saw was the good stuff, the times when the house is clean, your hair is washed, your make-up is perfect, and you are juggling the problems of the world like a master, then they would have impossibly high standards and would think that somehow they should live up to them. Your kids see you drinking. Yes. But they see so much else that you do too. I seriously doubt that with all of the good things you bring into their lives that they will walk away with only the bad.
