Now strictly speaking, I don't need to dress up. Most of the captains I know would rather get out of uniform when spending time in the lounge with wives, husbands, those they are involved with -- or like me, people they've just met on leave here at the Starbase. But me?

I go all out. I look good in a dress uniform. Really, really good. And I'm not ashamed to admit that.

When I head down to deck 12, I see the young cadet I met earlier. "Jo?" She's been a bit busy on her appearance herself.

Jo turns toward the voice, her nerves easily slipping away once she sees it's Jim. "Hey." She walks over to him, and almost almost holds out her hand like how she would greet someone from the bar, but she leans up to give him a kiss on the cheek instead. That's girly, right? "Got here a little early. I can't get enough of this ship." And it's true, she even sounds a bit starstruck.

"Oh?" I can't say I mind having a pretty girl kiss me on the cheek, but I'm reeling. Just a little at least. Jo's more than just a pretty girl and for once, there are no ulterior motives here. I just want a nice dinner with a nice person, one I don't spend much of my waking hours either next to, like my first officer, or in communication with, like my CMO. "I'll have to get you a tour." I offer her my arm. It's classy. I think so at least.
