First of all, my main focus on Lost is the character development too. And I think the writers did a good job with Jack, Kate and Sawyer, bringing them to face and fight their old acting paths and inner demons. Their "character themes" were very well explored: Control for Jack, Running away for Kate, Ignoring Feelings for Sawyer.
I understand "sci-fi" people who complained about the mini-arc though, because if you don't like those three characters, and were waiting for big answers... well, I guess those six episodes didn't give you a lot.
The Others storyline is way too cooler than the Hatch one in my book! I loved the moment in which that thing exploded and was gone, lol. I love Juliet, I should wait to get attached because we know so little about her, but I can't help myself, I developed a crush at first sight in ATOTC, plain and simple. Even if we're going to discover she's Satan, I will always thank her because she rocked those first eppys and made me look at Jack in another light after a loooong time. And I like Tom too, since the moment he asked Kate about her bruises. I'm on the fence about Ben... I mean, he's a great character, Michael Emerson portrays him perfectly, and I'm incredibly curious about everything concerning him, but... the not-so-rational side of me get mad every time I think that almost everything Kate and Sawyer suffered was because of Ben's decisions.
The thing I "hated" the most so far is the explanation for the Sawyer and Kate kidnapping. Not only irks me because I was hoping for a bigger part for them in the island mythology, but as you said, the Others didn't really need them, or even Kate. They could've taken only Jack and just said to him: Do the operation, or we'll kill your people at the camp. And Jack knows what they are capable of.
I have no idea who Jacob is either! But maybe I just have to blame myself, because somewhere during S2 I stopped giving close attention to the mythology clues, and sometimes I feel "lost" and can't come up with a decent theory, not recalling everything.
I can't understand the argument that Sawyer and Kate hooked up because the captivity gave them only each other to hold on, and all we saw wasn't love but some "consolation". The captivity, the harsh labor, the pain, the life threatening situation doesn't create the feelings, they just make those two stubborn loners open their eyes and their souls and recognize what was already there. They cared for each other before, they flirted before, they felt the connection and the mutual understanding before. But with so many personal issues, and walls built to protect and punish themselves at the same time, only such a stressful and desperate situation coul have brought them to admitt those things. Let's not forget that island-time, they met each other just two and a half months ago.
I'm a pessimistic person too, I still can't wrap my mind about the huge deal we got for our ship, and how beautiful, powerful, sweet in a good way, and epic all the S/K scenes were (well, if you don't count Sawyer checking her out, lol).
And WORD! to everything you wrote about relationships without basis of equality, mutual respect and understanding. I can't ship couples in which all I can see is unilateral whorshipping, or not a single important thing in common. But maybe it's just me. I hate to know that someone wants me not because of what I am, but because of the mental image he has of me. That's why I will never get Jate.
And trust me, out there is ALL about House and Cameron. @_@

Yeah in terms of characterization it pretty much rocked, but in terms of SCI FI it didn't give any answers. At the same time I feel for the SCI FI guys I think it's best this way because they're building slowly the plot just like S1. The cliffhanger should be something about the island but they didn't build anything plot wise so it made no sense to them drop a storyline. I think Ben's surgery is not the master plan so I see the first 6 episodes as a way to meet the Others and at the same time bring back the characters. Like Locke... I missed his awesomeness. "Well, I'm not Jack" heeeee!

Then she punch Jack and didn't take his crap and I start to ship Jack with another human being ahahaha! And she is even cooler because she is a doctor. I'm only scared because of her name... it's bad mojo call someone in a SCI FI show where names matter: Juliet. If she dies I'll cry a river.

Yeah I hoped KS were caught for a bigger reason. Sometimes it sucks the fact only Jack and Locke seemes to have a bigger purpose on the show. Still, destiny plays a big part on the show so who knows? Plus, maybe this explanation is not the final one. Lost hurts my brain so I like not to think about it so much ahahaha.

First of at all as francy I'm italian. But my english isn't so good as her ( Francy, seriously I think your english it's perfect *_*). I wanna share my opinion too, even if you said all . I din't read all the adhara stuff , what I get is that she believe the writers choose the skate way just because skate sells,the chemistry between Evie and Josh and because SK make the audience grown. And in a point of view from Tv world I can say that I'm agree with her (come on can you picturing Matthew fox make hot cage sex on the screen??... Honestly i don't LMAO) though jate is boring. I think the writers want them as a couple in S1 but since MF and EL doesn't sparks together they split up everything .
On the other hand nobody can't say that Skate is coming from nowhere . Actually I think they have more built up and a great relationship development since S1! we can see the big difference from the moth You're actually comparing yourself to Jack?You're actually comparing yourself to Jack? to Confidence man where Kate sitting down near sawyer,reading his letter,try to figure out what's wrong in him . then we had 'wathever the case may be' ' outlaws' ' born to run' with my fave skate scene ever why is it so important for you to be on that raft?'<...because there ain't anything on this island worth stayin' for then again they lookinf for eachother in exodus . Plus I think S2 was great for skate. Yes kate kissed Jack so what? She was a freak and she was just test her feeling for jack, she was so scared to fallen for sawyer. In her mind there is so much confusione like' why? I feel for the 'bad' guy and not for jack, the good one,the doctor...why I can't be good' and blah blah in fact after the kiss she run to sawyer , tell him that she had feeling for him and she's scared. and I can keep writing the big difference between skate and Jate . But the point is it : Kate finally admit to sawyer and mostly to herself how she's in love with Sawyer and there's no way she's back to choose Jack in a future. Okay it's just my opinion. but let's face it : Sawyer he''s not a easy choice, they've been through a lot of things to finally get together . Kate finally found a man who really love her for what she is , now she's no need anymore to hide or runnin' from him . So it's not just about her love for sawyer but also she grown as a character . On the other hand , Sawyer has someone who really love him ,someone who don't have a purpose for stay with him. Just for love.
So no, for me Jack he's not a problem for Skate ,maybe will make sawyer a little jelous but nothing more .I really appreciate what he did at the end of I do . Plus he deals with the fact that Kate and sawyer love eachother and he sacrifice his freedom for them(mostly because he wanna see kate happy) . So there's no way that Jack will create problem to them , he knows now that he don't have anymore chance with Kate!And yes I 'm convinced that the triangle is over! Plus I add this and yes then I'll stop to writting crap XD I kinda feel bad that someone may be disappoint about our ship . People is never happy . Why? e have all this BEAUTIFUL Skate stuff and some people instead to be happy about their scenes and how they show their love to eachother ...some people it's all concern about Kate talk to the radio with Jack! Why?? I don't get it!! Kate obviously care a lot of Jack and yes she don't want to run without him!! I understand her and I estimate her , why in the world she wanna leave him here with these evil people ???
these 6 episodes show us that it's all about Kate lovin' Sawyer , she don't think to Jack for a second, it was all about her ,sawyer and their feeling!Her choice it's done yet and it's Sawer . And I 'm in super happy mood about Skate, actually I couldn't ask for more♥

Well, I had to watch a lot of character development being ignored or screwed up in the second half of S2 because of the hatch and the mythology stuff, so now I take six "character-centric" episodes as a way to make up for that by the writers, lol.
A lot of people were expecting the cliffhanger to be about the island and Locke, and I have to say, me too. I totally thought there wasn't a real chance the writers would have used the "will Sawyer live or not?" card again after Exodus and the first episodes of S2... but I was wrong.
Yep! Seems like good old Locke is coming back. And it's about time. From spiritual guru in S1 to obsessed weird-o in S2: not the best thing for one of their main characters.
I think they planned to "prepare" the characters for what is in store for them in the near future, with that first mini-arc. They gave "hope" and his hero status back to Jack, make Sawyer and Kate accept each other, their feelings and a bit of themselves, showed the shadows in the Jin/Sun past but also how much they need and care for each other no matter what, made Locke start going back to who he was.

Tom has to find a way to make me forget about The Hunting Party (stop hurting my Sawyer!), but I can't really stay mad at him after the way he acted at the Others' camp. And yep, the Ben/Sawyer combo at the end of EMFH made me melt too. But: the only way to gain a con man's respect is to con him --> ????
maybe this explanation is not the final one.
I really hope so, because I won't feel Sawyer and Kate are "safe" as characters until I see some mythology connection for them too.

Demy, you have no idea how much I hope you're right about Jate being gone for good. You know that my logic agrees with you, but my Tv-junkie experience tells me over and over again that writers and producers are too crazy and unworthy of trust to keep my hopes flying high.

Me too, and it's not like they did a good job with the whole plot thing anyway. The hatch was boring and in the end didn't add anything (Only Desmond ;)). The only think that makes me sad about the end of the hatch is that now Kate and Sawyer won't shower together. The day that man shampoo her hair I'll die ;). Oh well, maybe they'll find another shower in another hidden place. Oh and what would be nice too is if they find a place with tapes of Casablanca, I don't know why I picture them watching the movie in a not coupling way I don't know... it's so weird why I think they should watch it LOL.

I hope so too (and I did this connection with Shakespeare since the first minute I heard that there was going to exist a character named Juliet), because she may be one of the best characters these days. There is so many lawyers with her so she isn't uni dimensional and predictable. I'll definitely write a fic based on EMFH. Mostly Jack's POV, because there is something very interesting I wanted to talk about and like Jack, I want to figure her out.
See I know I should hate the others, but how can I judge them so hard when the characters I love with all my heart made mistakes too. Off course with the Others is worst because they constantly terrify people, but they also do a few things that made me ike them Juliet is for now the nicer and I already ship them because it's stronger than me.
I think we ship a few couples because we share the same view on relationships. they do follow the same pattern if you think about and equality is the base of what we like to see it.
Demy, I'm glad you like my views on it. I'm so excited with Lost these days. I did for I do a review that took 9 or 10 pages on word and I'm so excited these days my friends hate me ahahaha.
