a not too flattering pic of me, post ex bx lip mucosele.
i had a lip bump growing for at least 3 weeks, right after bumping into an ex-school friend
who came for the same kind of surgery at my ward. i bit it once and swallowed the pus, what most
people would do and rubbed salt into it. but it kept coming back.
so today i asked around and got a plastic surgeon to do it, one of the best and most
experienced in fact. my nursing officer didn't mind that i did it during working hours. the admitting
, scrub and anaesthesia nurses were the same ones i worked with day in, day out. but
the fear was the same. and the anaesthesia needle! thousands of ant bites at one time in one place!
swelled up faster than you can say 'angelina jolie'..
so i changed into the patient gown. blue one with strings dangling at the back.
the same one i give my patients to wear day in day out.
going through everything my patients go through was very eye opening
especially as i have never been a scrub or anaesthesia nurse.
then they put the blinding OT lights on my face without covering my eyes.
and i said am i in heaven?
Prof Tan cleaned my mouth with gauze soaked in Normal saline,
and centrimide lastly chlorhexidine. They Timed out, called my name.
next came the lignocaine prick, not in my skin,
but my anterior mucosal lip wall.
a deep stinging pain which really made time stop.
my lip swelled of course roughly to a small balloon. at least that was what i felt.
then i mumbled it felt numb and he said well here comes the knife
and i guess the excision begun. heard some suctioning, realised it was
my saliva draining. i asked again what was happening. so he called for vicryl
and said i am giving you 6 stitches.and Lai Li said here? Yes, not too short
as if cutting string for bait.
