I used to have an annual tradition of listing my turn-ons and turn-offs on livejournal. I haven't done it in a while, so I thought it would be fun to comment on my original list, compiled back in 2001. Seeing as how my tastes have changed, I suppose it's a good thing I haven't gotten married yet, eh? Well, here’s the 2001 list, with new comments made in italics.
Turn Ons:
The way men look topless
Hygiene
Artistic and creative
Sarcastic humor
Intelligence
Wears baggy jeans (I much prefer the Gap jeans look on guys now, IE jeans that fit him)
Spiky hair (I wouldn’t call this a turn-on, I really don’t care either way)
Slim to slightly athletic build
Emo boy glasses (I really don’t care either way about glasses)
Nice, defined stomachs
Singing ability (Like Kristi says, it is less about their ability but more their willingness to have fun with it)
Boxers (I think I prefer boxer briefs now)
Cable modems (I have my own now, so it doesn’t matter as much)
Will thumb wrestle with me
Plays video games with me
A good kisser
Guys that cook for me or bring me food or feed me (the way to my heart is still through my stomach!)
Tall guys (height really doesn’t matter so much)
The way guys look when they just get out of the shower (still the hottest thing ever)
Compliments (but not in excess) (Hmmm, I guess you can compliment me excessively if you really want to…)
Guys that make me think
Snuggling
Pretty eyes or a pretty smile (both!)
Guys that pick on me a little, as long as they do not say seriously hurtful things or cuss at me
Weird guys, but not too much more weird than me
Ugly cars (HA HA HA!)
Well-endowed men (just a bonus)
Guys who do not expect to get laid right away and will make out with me even though I won't have sex with them
When they use funny pick up lines
Guys than can joke about things even if they are not politically correct, like dead baby jokes
Good listeners
Eyebrow rings, tongue rings, sometimes labret rings (I don’t really like eyebrow rings anymore, the other ones I feel indifferent towards)
Guys who will flex for me
When they call me a pet name
Guys that will give me lapdances
Young guys (I prefer guys around my age now)
Minty fresh breath
Waiters, pizzaboys, and car wash boys (I really don’t care what a guy does)
Semi-punk guys (Whatever that means!)
Guys who teach me about their interests, as long as it is not watching sports (They can teach me about sports too, I’m open)
Guys who treat me like a friend, but make out with me
Guys who laugh at my jokes
Killbot! Although I should not have to add him seperately, since he's got it all (hahaha, best inside joke ever)
Pirates and guys who talk pirate talk to me! Argh matey! (I think that would get on my nerves these days, especially if done in excess)
Another turn on: I love it when I am in the middle of a sentence and a guy just grabs me and kisses me! That rules! (I seriously can’t remember the last time that has happened to me. Sad.)
Turn Offs:
Guys who pine over their ex-girlfriends! That is a way to get rid of me real fast! (YES! Oh god, that sucks!)
Guys who tell me how hot the waitress is if we are on a date. I do not need to hear this! Besides, instead of wasting your time telling me this, shouldn't you be staring at her boobs? (Eh, I don’t really care. I like to talk about hot people too)
Guys who are not very smart, but act like they are smarter than me
Guys that are very smart, and act like they have to prove it at every waking moment. It is good to just lighten up sometimes! You do not need to use big words when discussing cartoons! (But it might be fun to try)
Hairy chests or back (A little bit of hair on the chest doesn’t bother me)
Moustaches (I think moustaches are freakin’ hilarious now, and I would totally date a guy with a moustache)
Guys who cuss at me
Smoking (I’d rather the guy doesn’t smoke, but it doesn’t bother me a whole lot)
Drinking (I think I’d rather they drink now, because, well, I do!)
Light brown hair or natural red hair (Eh, who cares)
Boring guys
Tighty whities
Vegetarians (I’ve dated a vegetarian since then, and it wasn’t bad. They are actually more creative cooks generally)
Stuck-up or arrogant guys
Guys who have feminine characteristics (I’m not even sure what I meant by this)
Guys who are bisexual...I guess it is ok if they have kissed guys before or have gone through a bi stage, but if they are addicted to man-sex, or frequently discuss hot men with me, it is not happening!
Guys who try and convert me (I really don’t think I could date a guy who was strongly religious, even if he didn’t try to convert me)
Guys who do not like to kiss
Guys that are shorter than me (Doesn’t bug me)
Fat guys
Tight pants (Chick jeans! Ugh!)
Cowboys
Accents. I do not like any of them! Except I guess Boston is ok (WTF???? I think I love all accents now, except southern accents. Especially British!)
When a guy asks me what I want to do, and then I tell him but he ignores my suggestion. If you would rather do something else, just say what you wanna do and we will do what I want some other time!
The type of guys you see on MTV's spring break
Frat boys
Guys that do everything I tell them to, and agree with everything I say, even when it is stupid
Guys who talk about themselves over 80% of the time
Guys who watch sports, or try and talk about them to me (I really don’t care either way, as long as he has other interests)
Too many tattoos
Guys that take me out, then want me to pay (If it’s a date, whoever asks should pay)
Shiny trucks
Guys that are losing their hair, or have very conservative looking hair (Eh, no one's perfect)
Old guys (Middle-aged pervy men are still just as bad, even now that I don’t have braces)
When a guy cries in front of me. Like if his relative dies or something like that, then it is understandable. But it just seems wrong if a guy cries over trivial things like a girl (Wow, I sounded kind of sexist there haha!)
Shorts that go above the knee
Unabrows
Moles
Criminal records (Depends what it is for)
Socks with sandals
Hippies
When guys are obsessed with their cars (Again, if they have other interests as well I don’t really care)
Super-shy guys
Guys who call me all the time
Mental illnesses
Love rashes
Violent guys. I prefer when men take out their aggressions with violent video games!
Guys who think they are god's gift to women
Insecurity (But a little bit of vulnerability is good)
Guys who you can know a week, and feel like you know everything about them already
Belly button rings. They are too girly!
Marines (At least I had some sense back then! Ick!)
Oh, and guys who wear see-through shirts, or tuck their shirts into their pants
I would like to add Republicans to that list, unreliable guys, and guys 21+ who date/hit on teenagers. Gross!
It's weird how it seems like a lot of my comments seem to be things like "I don't care about that anymore" yet I feel like I am becoming more selective as I get older. Does that make any sense at all?
