This weekend was a whole lot of fun, and by that I mean really lazy and dorky. I let slip to Ginny that my favorite artist by far is Salvidor Dali. He is academic and obtuse enough to satisfy my need for something analyze, but nothing he does looks like I could have done it, which is a huge plus. Add to that his complete and utter insanity (the man love Freud, what more needs to be said?) and you have my ideal artist. Little did I know there is a Dali museum in Florida. I think I'm the only one who didn't know that, but whatever, Ginny did and was kind enough to inform me.
So on Saturday I woke up bright and early (like at 10:30) and by 11something we were on our way to St. Petersburg, which is not only in Russia but also in west Florida. West Florida is also the location of the girlfriend of my bestest friend, David, and he happened to be down there for a visit as well, so we all got to hook up and laugh at the crap (and some Picasso) that was taking the place of Dali's stuff. Apparently the Dali museum is a real museum, meaning it loans its stuff out and gets stuff in return, so they only had about a dozen actual Dali works, the rest was a bunch of 20th century garbage (you know, crayons and randomly splashed colors), with the exception of some pretty cool Picasso stuff. That was sort of disappointing, but what they did have made the trip totally worth it; four masterworks (like 5'x9' paintings you could get right next to and not see all the detail) which were kindly explained to us by Ginny who (rightly) decided she knew more than the tour guide. They also had a painting called "The Lincoln" which looked like a cool bunch of boxes with a pretty woman's back on it and the usual slew of (totally awesome) hidden images. Then I stepped back about 100 feet and the boxes suddenly became Lincoln's face. It was really cool. I probably could have stayed there all day, but we sort of got silly after a while and with the help of a rather vulgar friend of Ginny's, got ourselves in trouble for analyzing the blank whiteboard holding a door open.
After that we ate at Johnny Rocket's where the charge extra for the fries and didn't tell us, causing Ginny to complain to the manager and get her order removed from the bill (she put the money into the tip) and David almost-accidentally walked out with one of the bill holders. Then we bid Ginny's friend adieu and drove to Anna Marie Island where David's mom lives. I got to see David, his little sister (who is 10! what?! I'm so old!) and his mom, who's sorta my second mom. All in all it was a ton of fun. Then we went to the beach (it's an island, of course we went to the beach) so Ginny could take pictures of the sunset. Whilst there I got whopped at some game where you connect lines between dots on a grid, with the goal of completing the most boxes. I don't remember the name, but it was a good "let's play in the sand" kind of game.
Once the sun set we trekked back home and got some sleep. Sunday I did absolutely nothing useful. Started and almost finished Harry Potter 4 (it's been a while since I read these, almost a year), read my new Scientific American, and watched this totally bizarre Eskimo movie (I kid you not) with lots of Eskimo boobies. It's called "Fast Runner" because, well, what passed for a main character totally ran over the ICE and PROBABLY-COLDER-THAN-ICE WATER completely NUDE really fast. Not Eskimo nude, birthday suit nude. SO hardcore. Then today I had a quiz in African studies, which I didn't even remember, much less study for. Thank God for easy A's.
Now I'm (probably) annoying the hell out of Ginny by going on a total Drum Corp kick and simultaneously testing the full capacity of these bad ass speakers I bought. In other words, slacking. I never realized that taking easy classes you didn' care about were so...easy. I almost never have to study, read, try, or anything, and I still get A's. These two classes are about 100 times easier than the one I took last summer period. Add to that the impending arrival of my parents and sis for Preview (and the subsequent free foodage I will be bumming off of them) and things are totally awesome.
