Autumnal Equinox 2009 - When Light and Dark Are Equal
Jun 14, 2010 15:12
The Autumnal Equinox is when the dark of night announces it has caught up with the light of day, it is now equal. The word equinox originates from the Latin word aequus (equal) and nox (night). There is balance, even if for one 24 hour period. The tilt of Earth s axis is slanting neither toward nor away from the Sun. The Sun is vertical above the equator. In the Northern Hemisphere this occurs on September 22nd.
