On many occasions, I have referred to LJ when my memory has failed me. So I’m going to make another update so Future Catie can look this up later.
Phil and I celebrated our one-and-a-half year anniversary of living in Waltham by deciding we wanted to move. It wasn’t that we hated the place. The apartment itself was really nice, but getting into the city wasn’t very easy and the people in the apartment complex next door were getting shadier and shadier. Once we made the decision to move, an extensive Craig’s List search commenced. We looked at small, overpriced apartments near MIT, old, poorly kept houses in Arlington, and even a basement unit near Harvard. After seeing about 30 apartments, we finally decided on a second-floor, two-bedroom apartment in a two-family house in East Arlington. It’s a great neighborhood. It’s quiet and safe with a few other young couples, some kids, and lots of dogs. We’re also just off Arlington’s “Revolutionary” Minuteman Bikeway, which is a hop, skip, and a jump from the subway-and Phil’s company! The apartment itself is lovely: it has a sunroom, like most Arlington houses, an enormous kitchen (I literally would be willing to rent out my counter space), and a dining room! We also have a three-season sunporch off the kitchen, which we haven’t really gotten to enjoy yet, but will once spring rolls around. Arlington’s a nice compromise between being close to the city (just five minutes from Cambridge) and just outside the limits of the urban congestion that would make my commute hellish.
Speaking of which, work has been going well. My boss has given me some great opportunities lately. I’ve put together a few blueprints for forthcoming online products (still a pretty new scene for our company), drew up a budget for a new book, and he asked me to do some extra research on a subdiscipline we haven’t sunken our teeth into yet. Also, Bookbuilders of Boston and Emerson have teamed up to hold this great Gutenberg to Google Series of talks on the electronic age of publishing. I’m going with a few co-workers on Monday to the first session regarding production and manufacturing (followed by drinks, of course). It should be good. Having one eye on the big picture helps me get through everyday minutiae that comes with the job.
Otherwise, I’ve just been trying to enjoy the weather before the Boston winter hits us. I’m meeting up with my mom and sister in New York next month. Phil & I also met up with my Dad in Portsmouth for a bowling tournament a couple of weeks ago. Portsmouth a great town, “one of our places,” as Phil would say. I wouldn’t mind living there one day. Next week’s the Bishop Allen concert and on November 3rd Thao is back in town (yes!). Also, the Cambridge Brewing Company is holding this awesome pumpkin festival next weekend within tons of pumpkin beers and pumpkin food. I MUST go.
Oh, and I'm also working on my mix for Geoff's CD ring. October's my month, and I'm taking it quite seriously. I even downloaded a trial version of Photoshop so I could design a jacket. I'd love to add this to the mix, but it seems it "isn't available for purchase in my country of origin." So, I will share the (awesomely creepy) video here. Enjoy!:
