Did some bare-patch fixing and some woodchip spreading today (bought 5 bags for $20, not bad). Used the "eco friendly" weed killer on the stuff that grows in asphalt cracks... it didn't work last year so I don't know why I am hopeful about this year. My bulbs came up nicely, and a sandcherry I thought was dead is blossoming nicely. My plum tree (replacing my dead weeping mulberry from last year) is blossoming nicely. The butterfly bush looks completely dead, but it always does this time of year.
My front garden is quite filled in, but everything is mixed together... spiderwort mingling with columbine and geranium, chinese lanterns walk somewhere new every year. This doesn't offend me, but it certainly isn't the traditional neat, tidy garden so prevalent in this neighbourhood. Perhaps the compromise of employing Weedman to work on the dandelions will make my neighbours happy enough not to leave nasty anonymous notes on my door.
One thing is certain: I will never manage to stay ahead of the weeds.
What are the things you can never have too much of in your garden? I want more lavender and more lilies.
