Hiya, I'm Dawn and am new here. ::waves to everyone::

I'm also new to the art of crock pot cooking. Just the other day I bought a 5qt rival crock pot. The first thing I cooked was a pot of beans, which was delicious!

Today, I sort of followed a recipe I found on the net. I sliced some potatoes and covered the bottom of the pot with them, then a layer of onions, then carrots, then chicken leg quarters. I was supposed to put corn on the cob in there too but oops, no room. I'll just zap them in the nukker at dinner time. Then I put in spices and a little chicken stock.

I set it on high for two hours, then I basted the chicken and set it on low. Well, it's only been another hour and a half since I set it on low, and it all looks done! Is that possible?

Also, the lid to the crock pot will "burp" and release some of the liquid. Is it supposed to do that? I have put a towel over it to keep it from splashing chicken juice everywhere ... did I put too much in there?

Yeah, I'm clueless....
