He Said No (fan art)

Long ago, there was a conversation, among fans, about Willy Wonka's similarities to the lore of the fae. Despite previously having little interest in the subject, an image grabbed my mind and would not let go.

This moment depicts a possible scenario of our favorite chocolatier taking a bath to sooth his nerves and think after Charlie's initial refusal. Or maybe it was just an excuse to officially make Johnny Depp a fairy (tee-hee).

I imagined that if Mr. Wonka were to be secretly hiding translucent wings under his velvet frock, that they would reveal a pattern the likes of which had never been seen; gaudy and mesmerizing -- reticent of the fact that often the most striking colors in nature belong to the most dangerous of beings. At the same time, he is vulnerable and sensitive, and though his back is turned upon them, the candy maker's secret sorrows follow and are revealed, even amid a playland of nearly incomprehensible perversion luxuries.
