Once upon a time

Yesterday, my next door neighbour committed suicide by jumping out of her bedroom window.

A meek little 70 something lady who moved into the house here with her daughter about a year or 2 ago. I don't know man, I would say I hardly know them even though her single daughter has been staying here for about 5 years now. But she was a really nice old lady who would smile whenever I said Hi. A smile that I will never see again.

Thankfully I was out so I didn't witness it first hand, but my mum did. And my mum being my mum was very calm and collected about it because she has seen all the blood and gore you can ever see in the A&E when she was still working. She said there was even blood splattered all over the wall and a huge pool of blood around the old lady because her skull cracked when it hit the ground. The daughter was understandably hysterical and wouldnt stop screaming.

I think it will be a really long time before I am able to walk on the path where she fell without thinking about it. I can't imagine how the people living on the ground floor flat feel, knowing that someone died outside their bedroom window.

I don't think anyone will ever know why she did it but it must have been something really drastic that drove her to this. I feel so sorry that it had to end like this for her. And I feel even worse for her daughter who has to deal with it and live on.

Once upon a time, there was a lady who stayed in the house next to mine; one who smiled at me shyly.

Once upon a time. But she is no more.
