Key Verse: Ezekiel 33:30-33
"As for you, son of man, the children of your people are talking about you beside the walls and in the doors of the houses: and they speak to one another, everyone saying to his brother, 'Please come and hear what the word is that comes from the LORD.' "So they come to you as people do, they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words, but they do not do them; for with thier mouth they show much love, but thier hears pursue their own gain. "Indeed you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they do not do them. "And when this comes to pass --- surely it will come --- then they will know that a prophet has been among them.""
Is it important to hear God's word? Absolutely. There is one thing that is just as important as hearing it and that is doing what His word says. We need to take what God speaks to us in our hearts and apply it. If we do nothing more than listen to what he says and then do not do what he says we are "like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like." (James 1:23b-24). God's word given to us through his preachers is more than a pretty voice every Sunday, it is one of God's ways of communicating with and convicting our hearts so that what we see in the mirror of God's word can be made to reflect more of Christ's righteousness and less of our sinfulness. Thus go out and do what God has called you to do. Do not be only hearers of His word.
