Key Verses:
And the word of the LORD came to me: "Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their hearts, and set the stumbling block of their iniquity before their faces. Should I indeed let myself be consulted by them? Therefore speak to them and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Any one of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and sets the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to the prophet, I the LORD will answer him as he comes with the multitude of his idols, that I may lay hold of the hearts of the house of Israel, who are all estranged from me through their idols. "Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord GOD: Repent and turn away from your idols, and turn away your faces from all your abominations. For any one of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel, who separates himself from me, taking his idols into his heart and putting the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to a prophet to consult me through him, I the LORD will answer him myself. And I will set my face against that man; I will make him a sign and a byword and cut him off from the midst of my people, and you shall know that I am the LORD.
Ezekiel 14:2-8
When something becomes the main focus in our life, the thing that we live for, the object that we serve then it becomes an idol to us. For some it is wealth, for some power, for some it is fame. Whatever that idol is, it puts a wall of separation up between us and God. So long as we are serving that idol rather than God we will not be able to fully receive the blessings that God has for us in our lives. Thus, the idol needs to be removed from your life. However, it's not just removing the idol, you also need to remove those places that put that idol in front of you. If your idol is alcohol then stay out of the bar, if your idol is sex, then stay away from pornography and the strip clubs, if your idol is power then don't put yourself in situations where you can abuse it. Also, bring good things into your life to fill the void that the idol once filled. Get yourself accountability, good fellowship, bury yourself in the word, and spend time with God so that there is no room for the idol in your life. Do these things and wait to see what God may do in your life as a result.
