Kyuhyun was lost in a world which was still so unfamiliar to him. Japan. Looking down the dark alley which threated to pull him in and swallow him hole, he backed up instictively. Where am I? He thought as he stared at the bright red door contrasting with the darkness, which was at the end of the alleyway. He took another small step back before bumping into a dark figure behind him.

"Oh, excuse me." He said in Japanese as he turned around to face a beautiful woman behind him. Her eyes were dark and threatening with such a simple innocent look, lined with black eyeliner as her curly orange locks framed her small face. Her plump lips were brightly coloured red as she smiled sweetly to him. He looked down to her slim body and long legs. It was a while since he had seen a woman taller than him; but then again she was wearing high heels which added to her height greatly. He looked back from her legs to her body and noticed her eccentric clothing; far to eccentric for a dark night.

"Are you alright, sweet cheeks?" The woman said in a rather low voice for a woman, patting his arm lightly before luring him in with her sweet eyes.

"Yeah I, uh, I'm, uh, yeah I-I-I'm fine." Kyuhyun croaked, his voice harsh from not being used for so long.

"That's good, honey. You don't look from around here." She said, studying his face intensively.

"I, uh, I'm not." He murmured looking down at his murky shoes which were muddy from walking through numerous fields from trying to find a suitable place to sleep for the long night. She pulled his face up by the chin and looked into his eyes.

"Where are you from, doll?" She asked. She seemed to be fond of terms of endearment.

"I'm from, uh, Korea." He said, averting his eyes from her long stare. He didn’t feel safe, knowing that his face was being remembered. This woman now knew a new face. Kyuhyun’s face. And she could do a lot with knowing his face.

"Korea, huh?" She asked. "Seems like we're more alike than we think we are." She said, only this time in Korean.

"You’re Korean?" Kyuhyun asked, glad he had found somebody who spoke his native language. She simply nodded before patting his arm again.

"What’s your name?” She asked.

“Kyuhyun.”

"Kyuhyun, are you lost?" She asked, her mouth spilling out perfect Hangul.

"I don't know." Kyuhyun was surprised he was still able to keep a conversation. He was mesmerized by the woman’s flawless beauty.

"You don't know? How can one not know if he is lost?" She said politely, looking behind him to the dark alleyway.

"How can one know if he is lost when he has no idea where he is supposed to be headed?" He answered sharply in reply.

"Your very smart." The woman said, wrapping her long elegant fingers around his neck and Kyuhyun felt his entire body from head to toe tense up. "How old are you?"

"I'm..I'm, uh, 17." Kyuhyun managed to speak, nervously from being asked a personal question.

“So young.” The woman whispered, inaudible to Kyuhyun. “Such a shame.” The woman added in a deep whisper which seemed to make Kyuhyun want to know what she was saying. His fists clenched uneasily at his side as he tried to pry away form her grasp.

“Where are you headed?” She asked carefully knowing she was scaring the young man.

“I’m trying to find a place to sleep for the night.”

“Are you thinking of sleeping down there?” She asked, pointing to the alley behind him with her head before adding, “Because I wouldn’t if I were you. You never know what types of people are out there. Why don’t you come to my house and you can sleep on my couch until you figure out what you want to do?” Kyuhyun was torn at this offer, knowing that his body needed proper rest and he needed a shower and not to mention food. But, he was brought up not taking candy from strangers and he knew this offer fit under that profile. Weighing the options in his head, Kyuhyun barely heard the woman insisting that she could be trusted and that her house was only a couple of minutes away.

“Okay. Thanks.” Kyuhyun murmured loud enough for her to hear, but not loud enough for it to be a confident answer.

“Don’t worry. You’ll be safe with me.” She said slipping a soft arm around his shoulder, tucking him into her.

Kyuhyun looked up to the high rise building, seeing numerous windows boarded up or smashed and felt unease surge through his body. The bricks were missing and the ones that remained were hanging in desperation. Don’t go in there. His conscience warned him but he ignored it. The woman tugged on his arm slightly as she walked along the path leading to the door which was barely hanging on its rusty hinges.

“This way.” She urged, pushing him slightly up a bleak stairwell which had some missing steps as well as chips or breaks. He dodged the missing ones well, but caused some new breaks in the ones which were surviving as well as they could.

“Is this building derelict?” Kyuhyun worried as they continued to climb the stairs.

“It’s just been neglected for a while.” The woman said, her hard voice echoing through the old hallways. “But don’t worry about that, sweetie.” She reassured him as they finally reached the frail door on the top floor. She reached into her bra and grabbed out a single key before placing it into the lock gracefully, but ruined it by kicking the door open.

“Stupid door.” She laughed as she placed the key on the counter in the hallway of her home. Kyuhyun walked in slowly adjusting to the lack of light as well as taking in his surroundings, which weren’t that much of a difference from outside. Most of the rooms didn’t have doors, not even the bathroom Kyuhyun noticed, before he was hit with the most rancid smell he had ever smelled in his life.

“Sweet Jesus, what’s that smell?” Kyuhyun winced, covering his nose and mouth with his forearm.

“Oh, that’s just my cat.” She said before shouting, “HEEBUM! WE HAVE A VISITOR!”

A small, delicate grey cat appeared from one of the rooms, meowing as it purred against it’s owner. The woman bent over, giving Kyuhyun a full on look of her bottom, and picked the cat up and snuggled against it gently. “Hello baby.” The woman said to the cat and Kyuhyun still found himself unable to get used to the woman’s impossibly deep voice. Kyuhyun found himself envious to the woman’s love for the cat as they both walked into what Kyuhyun realised was the living room. He looked around the room, spotting a torn up couch and a small television, the screen only a small bit larger than the span of his hand. The woman sat on the couch before placing Heebum down, unbuckling her heels and slipped them off her feet. Kyuhyun looked down at his ripped shirt, comparing his clothes to the woman’s.

“Take a seat.” She said before adding, “You don’t talk much do you?”

“Just not used to it.” He murmured before taking an awkward seat down on the couch, feeling how uncomfortable it was before wincing at the fact that it was his bed for the night. The woman got up from the couch and flicked the television on, the light from the television illuminating their faces, making it possible to see. The news blared from the screen loudly before the woman turned it down only a fraction.

“BREAKING NEWS. A new student has been found missing in the shanty towns of Japan. The young man of only 16 years of age has been reported missing as of 5 days ago. The police are trying to find his whereabouts as they patrol all areas of Toky -” The anchorman stated before the woman turned off the television, rolling her eyes as she did so.

“Fucking news.” She said. “Well, I’m going to bed, come in if you need anything. There are some blankets and pillows behind the couch. Sleep well.” She said and with a small bow of her head, she was gone out of the living room, leaving Kyuhyun in the feeble room. He adjusted to the dark, before getting up to ask if he could use the bath.

“Could I possibly use - ” He started but was taken aback from the sight in front of his eyes. “Your a man?!” He asked, outraged. The woman, or man, was fully naked, sitting on the bed taking his make up off.

“Yes.” The wo - no man - said, not even bothering to look at Kyuhyun.“I never said I was otherwise.”

“You...But....But you were....You were wearing make up! And high heels!” Kyuhyun yelled, exasperated before adding, “You had boobs!”

The man grabbed the bunched up toilet paper next to him and held it up to Kyuhyun, laughing rudely as he did so. Kyuhyun started with disbelief quite obviously shining through his eyes.

“Take a seat, darling.” He said, patting the bed next to him. Kyuhyun never felt obliged to do anything for him, so he muttered a no before the man stood halfway up and yanked his arm so he sat down on the small bed.

“I think we should talk, Kyuhyun, no?” Kyuhyun didn’t answer but instead asked him his initial question of whether or not he could wash himself. The man nodded and Kyuhyun silently left the room, the floors creaking loudly, threatening to cave in as he did so.

Kyuhyun awoke with a terrible pain in his back and neck from sleeping on the couch which was too small for his long, slender body. He tilted his head from side to side while sitting up and finding Heebum sitting on the floor next to his feet, snoring loudly. “Stupid cat.” He said before kicking it slightly, waking it up from its slumber and causing it to scatter from the room. Kyuhyun yawned loudly before hearing banging in another room. Kyuhyun slowly stood from the couch, stretching his legs out, then walked around the apartment to find where the noise was coming from. He found the mysterious banging in what appeared to be a kitchen, most of the cupboards not having handles which was probably what was making the banging. He found the man bent over going through one of the cupboards before pulling out a small frying pan. “Fucking finally!” He exclaimed, Kyuhyun now finding his voice quite high for a man. The man turned around and took a quick step back, clearly surprised from seeing Kyuhyun standing there watching him, but regained composure quickly.

“Oh Kyuhyun. You’re awake.” He said before smiling at him gently. It was weird for Kyuhyun not seeing him with make up on. “How was your sleep?”

“I slept fine. Thank you.” Kyuhyun only answered out of politeness. He looked up to the ceiling which was peeling but found himself already used to the weakness of his surroundings. How odd...

“Would you like something to eat? I was about to cook some eggs for me and Heebum.” He said.

“Your cat eats eggs?” Kyuhyun asked, wondering how a cat eats eggs.

“He pretty much eats anything.” The man shrugged and at that point Kyuhyun realised he still did not know the strangers name.

“What is your name?”

“Heechul. Kim Heechul.” He said as if Kyuhyun should know his name.

“How old are you?”

“I am turning 23 next july.” Heechul replied while cracking an egg gracefully, pouring it’s contents into the frying pan with a sizzle.

“You’re 5 years older than me.” Kyuhyun stated, wondering out loud.

“I know. Here you go.” Heechul said as he passed the frying pan to him. “Enjoy.” He said as he dug in with his own hands before looking up at Kyuhyun, confused. “Aar roo rot rungry?” He asked, his mouth full. Kyuhyun shook his head before picking up a piece of egg and shoving in into his mouth, chewing into the first meal he had had in days. He found himself eating most of the eggs, not stopping to chew fully before placing another piece into his mouth. He burped loudly as he finished the last piece and Heechul looked at him in amazement.

“Hungry?” He asked while laughing. Kyuhyun laughed awkwardly with him, his face burning in embarrassment.

“Come on, let’s go out.” He said before slipping into his room before walking out with a pair of jeans on and a baggy shirt. “Bye Heebum.” He said as they both walked out of the door and into the moulding corridor and down the stairs, Kyuhyun swearing more were missing from last night.

They stopped at the alley which was vaguely familiar to Kyuhyun. He remembered the bright red door as he looked down the alley, taking it in during the daylight; the dirtied stone of the buildings enclosing it; the brightness of the door resting happily at the end; the mass of garbage bins filled to the brim, some of them even spilling the rubbish over the tops; the puddles on the concrete earth.

“Remember this?” Heechul whispered into his ears.

Kyuhyun turned around abruptly to the closeness only to feel a sharp pain in his chest. He clutched his heart from the excruciating stinging of death and found a sharp metal object covered in a plastic coating. He choked as he tasted the rusty, thick blood in his mouth; falling helplessly to the ground clutching Heechul’s body of stone before his vision blurred.

They say that your life flashes before your eyes before you die.

That is never the case.
