Summary: Meredith thought it was the best post-it note to be known to all mankind.

The blue post-it note stuck out from the rest of the things that littered her locker. It was placed smack-dab right at the very center of the small wooden box, its edges flaring out a bit from being pulled away from the rest of its stack. But it was perfect, and Meredith thought it was the best post-it note to be known to all mankind.

It was their wedding vows. Meredith and Derek got married (albeit subconsciously and in secret) and wrote their wedding vows on a post-it note with a blue pen. Meredith mentally noted herself to thank her person for that one. She did, after all gave her something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. It didn’t matter if it consisted of a stack of post-its, her old shopping list, and a pen. What mattered was that Cristina Yang found it in herself to support Meredith, and that she actually cared.

The night that Meredith and Derek declared their vows over a post-it note, the two of them were stuck in the hospital valiantly trying to save two of her friends, leaving Meredith worried for one or the other. When George let go of his life, Meredith couldn’t help but wallow in the pits of despair, briefly smiling with only a glimmer of happy hope when she learned that Izzie was fine. Derek simply held her in his arms, letting her cry it all out.

“We forgot to add something to our vows,” she sniffled, burying her head in his chest, “we should’ve put we’d never leave each other.”

He nodded against her, dropping a swift kiss to her head. “We’ll never leave each other…”

“I’m happy we’re married, even if it’s only on post-it,” She smiled weakly, “At least I know you’re here… with me.”
