Hunched down, one knee chilled by the snow trying to seep through my combat, and a leaning against a tree for cover; I watch a couple of figures running between the boughs in the distance, not too far away, but far enough as not to be an issue. off to the left another couple of figures are moving through the darker patches of brambles, a fact I am alerted to by Gregg, my comrade-in-arms, almost invisible in his German camo. He and I are alone on the perimiter. We plan to engage when they come within range, those with red on their arms, and then fall back to the main base where we will make our stand. I shout that we have contact in our direction, and then straight ahead of me one of them pops out from behind a tree, his face covered by a mask. I line up the red dot with his face, and pull the trigger...
That's how my day started today, I went airsofting with the 'Meerkats' a team I created involving a couple of the guys I know who play well and have fun. Gregg and Mat came, but sadly Ash is in London now and wil be hard to integrate. Today there were alot of very young lads playing and in all honesty it was a bit of a turkey shoot. Don't get me wrong, they still managed to mallet us a few times, but we hit them three or four times as much at the least. At one point I found a nice bit of cover and held my ground, I must've hosed at least 15 of them before finally running out of ammo (I only have 8 magazines and you can easily eat through these if you're not careful with your fire)
The year has started fairly well. I had a really nice christmas back at home, first John Presting down to visit with Viki and spent a few days here, Pigeon made a guest appearance and John and Pidge actually met, two of my best friends meeting each other. It was sweet.
On that particular night out pidge gave me hell of special news, and I managed to outdrink him on Stella, which is pretty extraordinary for me (I actually chugged two pints. Me!)
I got my lap top, which is great and makes me more mobile. I got to spend lots of time with my beloved doggy, oh how I miss her so, and also with mum and dad of course, after christmas Ross and I went with Dad to Scarboro for Grandmas birthday, where she was house sitting. It was awesome, I love scarboro, even in Winter it is pretty and me and ross ran up the hill to the castle (knackering, he is much fitter than me now) and we climbed over the castle walls and broke in, mwahaha!
The house in Scarboro was absolutely gorgeous and exactly the sort of place I'd like to live. Very quaint and sea-sidey.
I came back to Manchester after that, and spent the new year with Jenny. She'd been going through some seriously bad shit at the time, and while I was doing everything I could to keep her sweet, she decided that the best course of action would be to twist everything I say and take her problems out on me wherever possible. I tolerated this for longer than I should, and then on new years day in the evening I finally exploded in a fit of rage. I soon calmed and apologised, and took her home, and then she apologised, things went ok after that which just shows you should stand your ground when people are being unreasonable.
I've spoken to alot of people in the industry recently, to the tune of 'you been getting any work?' 'no, it's DEAD, how about you?'
However, I've done alright in January at least, I managed to pull in a decent amount and hopefully I'll pull it off this month too. Given that last Jan I was also skint and working in a horrendous admin job in Bury, and this Jan I've worked on a couple of really fun jobs, and in between have been living a life of leisure involving mainly eating, fucking, and playing video games, in that order, I've made a 100% net benefit.
