I have come back to you

Journal, are you there?
*takes a deep breath and blows dust from the cover*

Journal...I'm back. This time, things are different. No more whining, no more bitching. No more frustration. In the time that I've been away things have changed. I've changed. I am doing well. I have things under control. Important things.

Now I have a project. It's a big thing for me. I haven't directed in a long time and now I am going to make the sketch show that's been on the cards for a long time. Now here's where you come in, Journal. You're going to be a log. I am going to record what happens and how the process proceeds. It's important that I keep it all on record, and don't forget because I need to learn from everything that happens. I need to look back on it.

There's more. I've agreed to go on a 374 mile bike ride with my brother. It's over 7 days and we're going from Sheffield to Penzance. It's going to be HARDCORE. Yesterday after having my bike serviced I decided to cycle to Gregg's and back. Its about 20 miles each way, and I succeeded, thus having cylced 40 miles. Pretty good going. by the end of the return journey, about 4 miles from home my legs basically gave up. I had to stop and sit down. I was pretty reluctant to do so because it was dark and raining pretty bad and I was in a nature reserve and the ground was very messy. I'm still trying to figure out why my bike is such a pain to ride. I've raised the saddle today and I think I'll go out on a bimble to see if it makes any difference.

Anyway, I went to Greggs and decided to mention the sketch show and also that I needed a Director of Photography. He agreed to do it. He also suggested that Matt be the producer. Matt is a very experienced man who can Get Things Done. I've tried ringing him today but had no answer, so I must keep trying, but Gregg thinks he'll be pretty eager to join the frey.
I also today recruited Ben Langley to be the focus puller/assistant. I am pleased he's going to do it - Ben is my guardian angel on jobs, I love the guy. Very dependable.

So the crew is shaping up. I have a script and it's not half bad. I've listed the resources I need for every scene. Now it all needs to be implemented and planned. I'm going to get Ollie in as art department and Leanne as make up.

Currently John and I are disputing whether he and I should be the main cast, as planned, or whether we should get proper actors to do it. I think the latter is more appropriate, certainly for my part. I want to be able to direct it - that's my career aspiration, I've got experience necessary to do it, and there's only 2 people who have the vision of how the shoot will look - me and John. I don't feel that I could direct it and play a role. Moreover I don't rate my acting and I have a weak, inconsistent voice, constantly plagued and riddled with colds and dust allergies.
I'm undecided about John. I've never seen him act, he's never even done it before. He is appropriate for his roles, of course, because he's playing himself but I don't know how his delivery on camera will be, how he'll respond to direction...or anything really. It's important that the whole thing is treated with a professional attitude by all parties, as it will be tricky to do and I really want John to take that attitude if he does play his own role.

on the plus side, the saying goes - anyone can act for camera. It's all about downplaying, you don't need any professional experience really, like you do with theatre.

Of course not just any old tosser from Grime Street can turn up and give a good performance, but the point is there's nothing to stop them. So we'll have to see how it goes with John. If he turns out to be poor, then it could waste alot of people's time. Then again, that's what rehearsals are for, right?

In addition I'm improving on my fitness. I'm eating healthier than i ever have, and I bought a blender so I can make smoothies all the time. I stayed at Ryan's for a few days this week and he taught me a really cool thing called a centurion.
The idea of a centurion is to do 100 pressups in the least possible attempts. Obviosuly the best you can do is 100 in a row. That's pretty much superman.
You could do 50 in a go, 20/20/20/20 or whatever.
The other thing is that however many you managed to do, that's how many seconds rest you get before you've got to go again.
I tried this and managed 31 (a record for me), 15, 5, 2 and gave up. I did a few chores and came back to it again. I kept having to take longer breaks, but I made it to 100 and felt the burn. It was really effective. I have decided to do a centurion every 3 days, and try to improve every time.

Its all working out, and I'm feeling really good. I start a big job soon on the MTV music awards. I'm very grateful for the work, because frankly there isn't any going around and it sucks ass. Temping calls!

I will keep you updated on all my progress.

Ta-ta for now, Journal.
