Wayward Son
a Blaine Anderson fanmix (redux)
During the hiatus, I made a
mix for Blaine - not Klaine, just Blaine, just where I thought his mind was at and how I saw his issues regarding performance, bravery, trueness to self, and the need to save the world while subtly realizing he was really, really bad at it. Since then Blaine is a little more oblivious, a little less of a mentor, a little quicker to fall apart. I'm still kind of proud I haven't thrown out a single song on that original EP, and now I've added eight more. I kind of love the boy, what can I say.
- In which Blaine Anderson has food, water, and seems to like his cage. -
Little Lion Man (Mumford & Sons)
Weep for yourself, my man -
you'll never be what is in your heart.
Weep, little lion man,
you're not as brave as you were at the start.
Rate yourself and rake yourself,
take all the courage you have left -
wasted on fixing all the problems
that you made in your own head.
Birds (Elton John)
These independent moves I make,
this confidence I try to fake,
you can hear the beating of my heart -
but not a feather falling in the dark.
...
How come birds don't fall
from the sky when they die?
How come birds always look
for a quiet place to hide?
These words can't explain what I feel inside -
like birds, I need a quiet place to hide.
Grace Kelly (Mika)
Do I attract you, do I repulse you
with my queasy smile?
Am I too dirty, am I too flirty,
do I like what you like?
I can be wholesome, I can be loathsome -
guess I'm a little bit shy.
Why don't you like me, why don't you like me
without making me try?
Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy (Jason Mraz, covering Queen)
I can dim the lights and sing you songs full of sad things,
we can do the tango just for two.
I can serenade and gently play on your heart strings,
be your Valentino just for you.
Peace, Love, and Understanding (A Perfect Circle covering Elvis Costello)
And as I walked on through troubled times,
my spirit gets so downhearted sometimes.
So where are the strong, and who are the trusted,
and where is the harmony, sweet harmony?
'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away,
just makes me wanna cry.
What's so funny 'bout peace, love, and understanding?
- In which Blaine finds a friend, and tries to be everything but what he really feels. -
Nature Boy (Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds)
I was just a boy when I sat down
to watch the news on TV.
I saw some ordinary slaughter,
I saw some routine atrocity.
My father said don't look away -
you got to be strong, you got to be bold, now.
He said that in the end, it is beauty
that is going to save the world, now.
And she moves among the sparrows,
and she floats upon the breeze.
She moves among the flowers,
she moves something deep inside of me.
Fix You (Coldplay)
Tears stream down on your face -
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes.
Tears stream down on your face,
and I...
Lights will guide you home
and ignite your bones,
and I will try to fix you.
Not Me (Elton John)
I once knew all the answers,
I stood on certain ground.
A picture of true happiness,
confidence so effortless
no brighter could be found.
...
And who'd have thought his love would be so good?
Not me, not me.
My secrets and my passions understood -
not me, not me.
And who'd have guessed he'd throw his world away
to be with someone 'til his dying day?
Not me, not me.
Brave (Leona Lewis)
You can trust so easily -
I can't give you all of me.
Still, you're holding on, when you should be gone.
I wish I was that brave.
You go to war for love like a soldier,
I want to run away.
You're never scared to walk through the fire -
I wish I had your faith.
I turn away, knowing my heart would break.
I'm so afraid to fall and surrender,
I'm not brave.
It's Over Now (Darren Criss, live at Public Assembly)
I can see the loneliness in you -
I know it well and everybody’s got it too.
It’s funny how I know I’m not alone here.
That’s how it seems, but when I’m walking through the halls,
everyone has reinforced their walls.
It’s no one’s fault that the vision ain’t at all clear.
I don't know what is worse than feeling like you're not a person.
I want everyone to sing along.
I try to be someone, but I don't know how,
I don't know how.
I try to be the one, but it's over now,
it's over now.
- In which a bird dies, a boy sings, and Blaine remembers who he is. -
Being Alive (John Barrowman, from the musical Company)
Somebody need me too much,
somebody know me too well.
Somebody pull me up short, and put me through hell,
and give me support for being alive.
Being alive...
Make me alive, make me alive.
Make me confused, mock me with praise,
let me be used, vary my days.
But alone is alone, not alive.
Sing (The Dresden Dolls)
There is this thing that's like touching except you don't touch.
Back in the day, it just went without saying at all.
All the world's history gradually dying of shock -
there is this thing it's like talking except you don't talk:
You sing.
Sing for the bartender, sing for the janitor, sing.
Sing for the cameras, sing for the animals, sing.
Sing for the children shooting the children, sing.
Sing for the teachers who told you that you couldn't sing.
Just sing.
Carry On, Wayward Son (Kansas)
Masquerading as a man with a reason,
my charade is the event of the season -
and if I claim to be a wise man, well,
it surely means that I don't know.
On a stormy sea of moving emotion,
tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean.
I set a course for winds of fortune,
but I hear the voices say...
...
Carry on, you will always remember.
carry on, nothing equals the splendor.
Now your life's no longer empty -
surely heaven waits for you.
Iris (Ronan Keating, covering The Goo Goo Dolls)
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming,
or the moment of truth in your lies.
When everything feels like the movies,
yeah, you bleed just to know you're alive.
And I don't want the world to see me
'cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.
Nature Boy (Cher, covering Nat Cole)
There was a boy -
a very strange, enchanted boy.
They say he wandered very far, very far,
over land and sea;
a little shy and sad of eye,
but very wise was he.
And then, one day,
one magic day, he passed my way -
and while we spoke of many things,
fools and kings,
this he said to me:
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn
is just to love and be loved in return."
