It's New Years Eve on the Chinese calendar. Seeing I didn't go well on my Western calendar New Years resolutions, I'l start anew from tomorrow. :D
But first things first, I've got to clean up my room. That was apparently suposed to happen two days ago (there's an official day leading up to Chinese New Year where one cleans up their house) . As for other traditions?
- Abstaining from eating meat on New Years day. Apparently fish don't count. Poor fish.
- Visitng relatives. But that's pretty standard.
- You can't wash your hair on New Years Day (but apparently you're not meant to wash your hair on several other occasions too. I might pass this one).
- Buying new clothes. Preferably red.
- You can't buy shoes for a month.
A MONTH.
Two years ago, during February and March following CNY, I saw the cutest little boots on sale. And because I was a superstitious soul, I ddn't buy them and spent the year (and the rest of eternity thereafter) in regret, because I never saw them again. Not as in 'on discount' but ever and ever and ever.
And there's also the fact I go through shoes like no tomorrow.
But I will restrain myself. Stay far away from shoe stores for the next month.
Happy Chinese New Year, everyone! ^^
